Movie Reviews of The Holcroft Covenant

Movie Review: Good Movie
Summary: 3 Stars

If you like British actor Michael Caine, then you will appreciate this series of espionage movies with an international European setting which gives the movie its credibility.

Movie Review: Dissatisfied viewer
Summary: 1 Stars

I found this movie to be disapointing. It did'nt even try to follow the book. I realize there was alot to cover but come on it just sucked out.

Movie Review: Probably the worst Ludlum film adaptation I've seen
Summary: 1 Stars

I rented "Holcroft Covenant." If you are a Ludlum junkie and you've got to see the film, I don't suggest a purchase until you have seen the film.

Movie Review: what a stinker!
Summary: 1 Stars

Absolutely awful musical score (vintage Japanese sci fi screeches - by composer Stanislas, never to be heard from again) sets the mood for a poorly written, terribly acted movie that no doubt cost a bundle, had a good cast and great locations, but man they couldn't have ruined this one any more than they did!

Just goes to show that even the bigger stars need any work some years, but I bet this stinker set Caine's and Tenant's career reps back at least a decade. If you insist on watching this one, be sure to be prepared to self-medicate early into the show. Don't worry, you won't miss a bit of plot - what there is of it.

Movie Review: Enlightening and Relevant to Today
Summary: 5 Stars

Michael Caine always can anchor a spy flick, and this is no exception. While the plot is a trifle flat, and a couple of the supporting actors (Victoria Tennent) are stretched beyond their abilities, the cinemagraphic techniques and direction by John Frankenheimer are superb. Several elements, particularly the outdoor angles from crowded streets and the icy violin sound effects echo back to the great spy movies of the post-war era and lend an almost Hitchcock-esque eeriness to the film. And when the climax finally reveals the implications of the plot, even the dense can see the relevance to comtemporary events.

Hard to believe this timely film is nearly 20 years old.
