Movie Reviews of The HobbitMovie Review: Mismatched set, but all in all a good one. Summary: 5 Stars
Both the Hobbit and the Return of the King are more for kids, as I remembered them. That is who I bought it for, and they loved it. The middle movie, titled The Lord of the Rings, was meant for a little older audience but falls short, yet fails to keep the kids as interested. Being a fan of cinema, I love it for the originality of it's production method. And, as a fan of the book I must point out that it, yet much more abridged, sticks closer to the book's storyline. All in all, if you love the Lord of the Rings, you'll enjoy this series. Just remember that the middle movie is a bit more violent and less kid friendly.
Movie Review: One amazing movie!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I've loved this ever since I was a kid, and continue to watch it today. I especially enjoy the unique animation and the folksy songs (Glenn Yarbrough does a particularly good job on 'The Greatest Adventure'). I found Gandalf exactly as I pictured him, even with the perfect voice for the part. It's better than the Return of the King because it includes more from the book and captures Tolkien's imaginative work in a nicer and more subtler way. You'll get swept up in the story, all the way to the Battle of the Five Armies. Buy it - you'll love it!!!
Movie Review: Excellent adaptation and a must-have for your video library! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a huge Tolkien fan, and this movie definitely helped introduce many, many people to the fantastic universe of his stories. Amazingly, it did also try its best to follow the storyline pretty well. The voices are VERY well done, and the dialogue also is great. It really gets across the *feelings* that were in the book, which are often hard to convey in a movie format. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves the Tolkien stories, and if you haven't read them yet, this might be the perfect introduction!
Movie Review: One of the best gifts I have ever given... Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this movie for my wife's birthday, as it was a movie she remembers fondly when she was young, and she was absolutely amazed it was out on DVD. The quality is surprisingly good for a transfer and the story is still just as effective. I personally prefer this series to the 'real' ones made recently. I would HIGHLY recommend this movie and the animated series to anyone who wants to introduce their children to fantasy movies. Also a big hit with us adults who remember the movie from our youth.
Movie Review: Great intro to LOTR Summary: 5 Stars
I had this cartoon as a child and I always loved it. I bought the DVD for my kids and they also love it. I noticed some of the sound effects missing or different, and naturally, Rankin-Bass's take on Tolkien's world is not Peter Jackson's. But even Peter Jackson would admit that Peter Jackson's take isn't Tolkien's either. All in all, I think it is a good introduction to Middlearth for the younger generation who may be just developing a love of "dwarves, goblins, wizards, dragons and hobbits..."
