Movie Reviews of The Hitcher

Movie Review: Scarey!
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband and I first saw this in 1986 when we were newlyweds. It scared me half to death! Rutger has such charm and charisma, but then his character is so terrifying because you soon learn that there are no limits to what he will do. Nothing is sacred to him. Therefore, he is definitely not a predictable villain. C. Thomas Howell is very convincing in his role as outraged victim. This movie has always been under-rated and merits much more attention. To those of you who say that Rutger is a

"One Hit Wonder", I have two words..."Lady Hawke." He has also made many fine movies and won many awards in his homeland of Holland. Any movie with Rutger is worth watching at least once, but this one is worth watching over and over!

Movie Review: Far Better Than The Remake!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have this movie on DVD, and went to see the remake in the theaters. This is FAR better. Sean Bean did a good job of playing "The Hitcher" in the new version, but his acting skill doesn't quite match the effect or the spookiness that Rutger Hauer can do! Rutger Hauer is so believeable in this role! He makes this movie what it is!

Rutger Hauer was picked up on the ROAD.......hence the name "The Hitcher." You're not a "hitcher" if you give a guy a ride who's hanging out in a convenience store....as Sean Bean was doing. Bean never stuck out his thumb.

The new version had changed the storyline a little, with Sophia Bush saving the day. The 1986 version is the true thriller!

Movie Review: Tea: One please, with two cubes, thanks
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a brilliant movie because...well of many things. Most noteworthy is the transformation of C. Thomas Howell's character, which goes from the average kid driving across the country, to the man who is ready to meet the battle head on. And the build-up of suspense and tension is pretty good..had me on the edge of my seat several times.
Plus it has a great ending, where you come out of it and feel that all is right again with the world, because the battle ended with good triumphing over evil.
Not a movie I'd recommend for younger kids though...there isn't a lot of gore, but the scare factor is there...plus the bad guy isn't some alien, he looks like the guy you pass on the street.

Movie Review: The film stopped for me... well worth picking up!
Summary: 5 Stars

The best horror/suspense film I've seen for a long time. As Rutger is my fav actor he is brilliant as the Hitcher who C Thomas Howell (Jim Halsey) picks up unwittingly in the rain!

Overall comment on the DVD plus extras in the UK is that it is a slasher of a movie. Very understated by some reviews I have read but by the Director and the cinematographer on the DVD commentary I have to agree that it is the best horror flick there is around. I find this because the film doesn't have to show the whole of the killings to see how grisly it really is and what is going on in every scene to show what the actors are up to. It is all up to the viewer's imagination.

Movie Review: Terrifying Thrill Ride
Summary: 5 Stars

The Hitcher is a terrifying thrill ride with suspenseful moments right and left. This is an edge-of-your-seat thriller than any horror movie fanatic will love.

C. Thomas Howell plays Jim Hasley, a teenager on a road trip through the desert. Along the way, he picks up the hitcher, played by Rutger Hauer. Then, everything goes wrong as Hauer's character begins framing Jim Hasley for the grizzly murders that Hauer caused.

This is an amazing movie with such thrills, such as the finger in the french fries and the car chase scene. This is a great movie than any horror loving person will love with a passion =)
