Movie Reviews of The Hitcher (Widescreen Edition)

Movie Review: I liked it more than I expected to!
Summary: 4 Stars

With all the bad reviews I've read on the internet I was hesitant to see this remake.

Well, I decided to give it a try just to watch Sean Bean. I LOVE the actor. I was pleasantly surprised (if you can say that about a movie like this 8-0 lol) how well I liked this version of The Hitcher! It's more of an action film than the original.

Sean Bean and Sophia Bush were both excellent.

It's amazing how Sean Bean can go from somewhat trustworthy looking (it's the smile) to complete psycho.

I recommend this to anyone who doesn't have hang-ups over their favorite movie getting remade and people who just like a suspenseful action flick.

Movie Review: (2.5 STARS) Yet Another Unnecessary Remake -- Entertaining in Its Gory Way Though
Summary: 3 Stars

You know you just cannot expect anything subtle from this Michael Bay-produced remake of "The Hitcher." What this violent thriller (even more violent and gory than the original) says is very simple; don't you ever pick up a stranger, especially when that stranger is a psychopathic serial killer.

The original's setting has been slightly changed for the remake (though most of the episodes remain). This time a female lead played by Sophia Bush is given a more substantial role than the male counterpart by Zachary Knighton. The newer version also has more actions like car chases that seem to have come directly from "Bad Boys II." Technically all these stunts are more than satisfactory, but what about the story, or scares?

It depends. Sean Bean is the titular "Hitcher" or a John Ryder, a role once played by Rutger Hauer. Blue-eyed Hauer gave a creepy performance as Ryder, who sometimes looked like a supernatural presence, but Sean Bean's chilling performance here is not bad although I believe Hollywood is guilty of typecasting him again and again.

What is really disappointing is the script. I don't usually care if there are plot holes in this kind of thriller, but here when you think these young heroine and hero often act stupidly, the local police enter and they turn out to be more stupid and inefficient. I cannot tell you much about it, but how many times should we see someone hiding in a toilet? OK, I know some people do unreasonable things in real life, but when their actions start to look like cliché, perhaps we should suspect that something is wrong with the story.

Without the original's metaphorical approach to the villain, Sean Bean's John Ryder is more like a cross between The Terminator and Martin Riggs, the suicidal hero of "The Lethal Weapon." The film is shot beautifully and the director narrates the story slickly, but without the atmosphere of the first one, the remake is more like a mindless B horror action film, entertaining in its own way.

Movie Review: COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME! WATCH THE ORIGINAL!
Summary: 1 Stars

Why did I do it? I knew this movie couldn't be any good and yet I had to watch it! Like a train wreck, this film destroys what was good about the original. It's a slick looking movie and it is short so, I guess if you don't compare it to the original you might be able to get through it's 1 hour and 20 minute time length. It's filled with stupity from begining to end. If you want to watch 'The Hitcher' watch the original! 1 1/2 stars?

Movie Review: in a bad situation... on numerous occasions!
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is about a young man and his girlfriend who are constantly being chased by a maniac. There's a trick to it, of course. Every time someone dies, it's because the maniac has killed them, and when the young man and his girlfriend arrive to the scene, everyone (cops mostly) suspect THEY were the ones responsible for the murders. This means the man and his girlfriend are spending most of the time running and hiding.

Eventually, it all leads up to a big car chase involving the man and his girlfriend and about three cop vehicles and a helicopter. The cops are convinced the man and the girlfriend are murderers, however, the man who was actually responsible for the murders enters the picture right at this moment, and he totally destroys all the cop vehicles and the helicopter. This is when the cops realize what's going on.

Soon after this point, the action scenes turn into extremely violent and bloody horror scenes, and some surprises can be found along the way. Will the man and his girlfriend be able to convince the cops they are innocent, and will they survive? You need to watch the movie to find out!

Movie Review: Give it a chance...
Summary: 4 Stars

Okay... Okay... I'll admit that this movie has some bad spots in it that would cause one to be annoyed. But the raw emotion put into these characters is amazing.... The acting is fantastic and it's a movie that SHOULD make you wonder what the hell he was thinking? Why did he go through all of this with the girl? We can all wonder why... Some might say he longed for death... Others might say he was hoping to make the girl like him... But I for one loved the raw emotion put into the movie... But as I said, some parts of it I just hated.... Deffinately worth seeing at least once.
