Movie Review: Great little series
Summary: 4 Stars
If you're a civil engineer with a historical bent, this series might be too basic for you, but I learned a lot from it, not being that type of engineer. The episode on ancient Persia and Cyrus the Great I found to be especially interesting in the coverage of how they created the extensive water works. Peter Weller provides somewhat edgy commentary and truly has a passion for appreciating history and the great works of the past in this series. The only reason for the four stars is the coverage of ancient empires is somewhat spotty--ancient China and India aren't covered--although both the Aztecs and Mayans are. I note one other reviewer here mentioned this problem too. But it's a minor one considering the strength of the other episodes.
I also note the complaints about the letter-box transfer, but I watched this on the History Channel on TV and I'm able to adjust the screen format to fill the screen so I didn't have any black bars on the sides and top and bottom of the screen. That didn't stop me from actually buying the set just in case I want to watch reruns though, since it's such a good series.
