Movie Reviews of The HiddenMovie Review: Great 80's flick! Summary: 5 Stars
I remember seeing this in the movies. Blew me away mainly because it was more than I expected. Great plot. Decent acting for the most part. Familiar background (I used to live in the general area). Seeing it again for the first time since it was released, it didn't have quite the same impact. Probably because my 32" screen doesn't compare a movie house's, among other things.
Also, I'm usually more critical when someone raves about something. In other words, don't expect a great show because I said it was. Just keep an open mind.
Sooo, bottom line, it's a decent alien flick in current times. One of my 80's favorites. It's violent, but fits its genre. I recommend watching before passing it along to the teenagers (under 12 just ain't right!).
Regards,
Norm
Movie Review: Incredibly Entertaining! Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is a hidden gem and enormously entertaining.
It's a fast- paced account of normal people taking turns being inhabited by an alien being and suddenly turning into out-of-control killing machines. It guess it kind of sounds dumb, but seeing it is better than describing it. The characters in here are wild.
Kyle MacLachlan plays his normal mid-80s strange character, a la "Blue Velvet," "Twin Peaks," etc. Here, he is the FBI agent....or is he?
On the first viewing I found Michael Nouri's role as too abrasive, taking away from some of the fun of viewing this, but, in future viewings he was more tolerable. What also helps this film is a little bit of humor thrown in here and there.
It will probably wind up as a cult classic.
Movie Review: A HIDDEN LITTLE TREASURE OF A MOVIE Summary: 5 Stars
Sci-Fi, horror, cop thriller, buddy movie, action flick. 'THE HIDDEN' is a delightful combo of all of these genres. It's almost like watching the best scenes from 'THE TERMINATOR', 'INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS', 'ROBOCOP', '48 HOURS' and 'SPECIES' all in the same movie! And yet, despite having all the necessary ingredients that make up a summer blockbuster, 'THE HIDDEN' has instead received a decent-sized cult following over the years. Perhaps one day it will join other movie greats like 'BLADE RUNNER' and 'HIGHLANDER', both of which were also flops at the time of their theatrical releases but have since then become classics of science fiction and fantasy. Peace.
Movie Review: Even if you don't like horror... Summary: 5 Stars
"The Hidden" is usually placed in the horror section of the videostore, which is a genre I don't usually watch. The only reason I picked this one up is because Siskel and Ebert said it was one of their secret pleasures. This movie is so much more than a horror film! It's witty and funny, satirical as well as full of pathos. Even though I've got this film in widescreen VHS, I'm going to get the DVD version because of the commentary track; I really want to know why the filmmakers made certain choices and what they think of them now that the film's several years old.
Movie Review: Still Great! Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this movie in theatre when if first came out. saw it again recently and still think it's great. The alien slug is an evil parasite that has no problem infesting old or young and using them to kill, kill, kill. The alien cop chasing it is incredibly determined and goes all out in his pursuit. The whole movie kept me riveted, even when watching it again. The Ferrari scenes are among my favorites and the climatic ending took me by surprise when I first saw it 20 years ago. I think anyone who enjoys alien flicks set on earth will enjoy this.
