Movie Reviews of The GuardianMovie Review: An inspiring Heroic Movie Summary: 5 Stars
I enjoy watching heroic movies, because they truelly inspire me. I love watching Kevin Costner in movies and I think he is a very good actor. I was also very amazed by Ashton Kutchers acting, because I never seen him put so much emotion (tears, anger) in any other movie. So I was excited to watch "The Guardian".
I never knew how hard it is to be a Coast Guard after watching this movie. Now that I have seen this it made me think about everything (Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marines etc.) How they are always out there saving lifes of other human beings and putting their own life in the most tragic situations that can kill them at any moment. But if you think about joining something as dangerous as Coast Guard or anything else, then you need to know that you would always be remembered as a hero and as that very person that put his own life in to the victims hands. It even thought me lessons. For example: If you have your mind set to one thing you should never give up, like Ashton Kutcher (fisher) in this movie. he was accepted to many Ivy league schools, but he refused to go there because he wanted to save peoples lives and thats why he joined Coast Guard. I was so in to this movie that I had tears going down my cheeks at the end. It even thought me lessons. I just love it!
So i give this movie 5 Stars! If you don't agree with me, well thats ok, because everyone has different opinions.
Movie Review: Partial to The Coast Guard Summary: 5 Stars
My son has been in the Coast Guard for eight years and he met his wife, a former Coastie, at a Coast Guard school in California. When The Guardian came out my son and I watched it together. It was difficult for me to watch it without feeling pride for what he does in the Guard. He commented that the movie was technically very accurate, and I noticed that the credits included about fifteen names of current and former Coast Guard personnel as technical advisors, which explains the technical accuracy. My son was also a competitive swimmer in his youth, and he won a high school state championship in breaststroke, so we were able to relate to Ashton Kutcher's role as a swim champion. When my son had to choose a path in the Guard he really struggled between SAR (Search and Rescue, the gist of the movie), or electronics. He chose electronics and has succeeded well, but a part of him rides with Ashton Kutcher simply because of the true tangible value of saving lives, one of the mainstays of the Coast Guard. My son also reminded me that many of the Search and Rescue personnel in the Guard who performed admirably during hurricane Katrina had lost their homes as well, but they still did their duty in spite of their losses. The Guardian brings to light a truly wonderful service that is so often overlooked but is absolutely rewarding.
Movie Review: Go Coast Guard!! Summary: 5 Stars
When I reviewed "The Perfect Storm" I had commented that I thought the whole story of the fishing ship going down was a big bore-fest but the best parts where the parts with the Coast Guard rescuing people from the sea. I had wished that they had made a Coast Guard movie with a focus on people like that. This IS the movie I was wishing for.
I delayed my viewing of this mostly because I've never been an Ashton Kutcher fan and most of what Kevin Costner is more miss than hit so I was afraid that the Coast Guard may have been belittled by Hollywood's magic touch. But I'm glad to report that there was none of this. A little Navy bashing, which I thought this movie could have gone without, but it really does show the greatness of the Coast Guard and the sacrifices of those who serve "So Others Might Live."
This movie seemed to have a little bit of it all. Decent acting, good story, a lot of action, a little romance, a boat-full of heart, and the right timing of humor. I should warn you on the action, there is a bit so this movie may not be for the feint of heart, but it was nice that the gore-factor was kept to a minimum (some blood and some throwing up).
Movie Review: Husband Deployed to Bering Sea Summary: 5 Stars
I truly enjoyed the movie, I thought it was going to be schmaltzy and cheesy I was plesantly surprised it was actually good and true to life.
This is a two hankie movie,it has humor, action and a touch of romance packed with angst it is definately worth seeing again.
My husband is a career Coastie and is currently deployed to the Bering Sea. He said the movie is very true to life and since he has been to the Bering Sea before said those scenes are very real that is how the waves, weather and lousy conditions are.
After seeing the footage of the Bering Sea and how the Alex Haley was tossed around like a bob cork I was scared for my husband, knowing he would be there the worst time of the year December to March.
The acting was true to life and the scenerios from the rescues to how much of a scrafice families of these brave men make.
I had respect for my husband and all Coasties,I knew the job was hard and dangerous after seeing this movie I have a renewed respect for all Coasties especially the ones Stationed in Alaska and who are deployed to that area of the world.
Movie Review: Finally the Coast Guard Summary: 5 Stars
As a retired Coast Guardsman, I watched the movie with great anticipation-hoping that they would "get it right" and night just have another hollywood production. After experiencing 30 years of service and seeing a lot of what is portrayed in the movie, I believe they have. Even though others may not think the the intertwined love story is necessary, I believe that it adds a sense of realism and personal sacrifice to the storyline. These are situations that are faced not only by rescue swimmers, who may have the most physically challenging job in the Guard, but by every person in the Coast Guard who has every had to go out in rough seas, board boats, coduct rescues at sea, do drug interdiction or a myriad of other taskings in less than ideal conditions. The movie does an excellent job exposing those who are are unaware to one aspect of the Coast Guard mission. I hope it makes them that much more aware of the sacrifice freely given on a daily basis in the saving of lives and property, the safeguarding of US freedoms and interests, and the effect it has on the personnel involved.
