Movie Reviews of The Great RaceMovie Review: The Great Comedy Summary: 5 Stars
This is the funniest movie of all time. Each small detail contributes to an overall amazing film with almost continuous laughter. I first saw it as a kid and have watched it about once every year or 2 since. I've memorized most of the dialog and of course I'm not surprised but still laugh like crazy when Count von Shtup jumps into his boat and the boat comes apart in the water; when Professor Fate is knocked into the large coronation cake and later the prince, also played by Jack Lemmon, does the same; when a white cream pie finally hits the Great Leslie in the face, and on and on for so many more perfectly-directed scenes. The homing pigeons, the fake Indians, the suffragette movement, the fight in Boracho with Texas Jack, the organ music that continues to play after Fate has lifted his hands off the keyboard, Potsdorf, etc. I am surprised that no college-aged pranksters or filmmakers have replicated the pie throwing scene and filmed it for You Tube: my kids tell me that it is only because no college age people have seen this movie besides them Too sad.
Movie Review: Timeless and Funny Summary: 5 Stars
I remembered seeing this in my youth so I popped it in the queue on Netflix, mainly for my seven-year-old. It's long but she never got bored with it. The humor is both subtle and broad; Jack Lemmon at his height! Blake Edwards (director) is a master at what is funny. The body of evidence is undeniable.
Anyhoo, we watched this movie several times before returning it. When I was packing it into the red envelope, my girl says to me "... could we keep it? I want to watch it again.". She never has to twist my arm when it comes to good, clean fun. As soon as the Amazon box arrived, she wanted to watch it again. She doesn't know who all the cameo actors are, but that's immaterial to the fun.
If there were more than four stars, I'd click them all. The gags still make me laugh after a dozen showings. If you were a fan of the pie fights in those Stooges shorts, this pie fight will make them seem amature. I don't know why I waited so long to add this to our permanent collection.
Movie Review: The Ultimate Summary: 5 Stars
The Great Race is one of my favorite comedy movies. Since the dawn of the DVD revolution, I wished for it to come out on the new format. My wish has just been answered after four long years of waiting. This DVD release is a dream comes true with fully restored film elements, all-new remastered Dolby 5.1, widescreen anamorphic format, eight subtitle options and a French optional track. A "Making of" documentary and a trailer. I am not greedy and very happy with all these features. The whole package looks very exciting and the price is unrefutable. It is a steal with tremendous value. Throw in an immaculate video transfer, a catchy and memorable Henry Mancini's music track and an emsemble of perfectly casted stars, now we have the ultimate "The Great Race" to be enjoyed and cherished for years to come. Again, Warner has done a great job in releasing this movie on DVD with an unbeatable and very reasonable price. I recommend this DVD highly to all fans of the movie.

Movie Review: The Great Gaggle of Gags Summary: 5 Stars
This is a fantastic video party movie! Fresh and funny even after almost 40 years. My family had the privilege of seeing it first-run in one of Chicago's fabulous theaters. Who can resist Henry Mancini's genius soundtrack, or the beyond-slapstick sound effects (especially with Max as a friar). And the sight gags: look for the mounted back end of a moose in Fate's mansion, and watch for Fate to light a match with his teeth. The way I describe this film to friends? It's like the best WB cartoons all mixed together but done with real people. What other movie can deliver a saloon brawl, a fencing duel, and a pie fight, as well as some of the funniest punchlines in film history? If you want your own variation on more than 2000 pies flying around, try watching the pie fight backwards. And be sure to follow the bouncing ball and sing along with "The Sweetheart Tree." (FYI: I own the VHS, not the DVD.)
