Movie Reviews of The Great GatsbyMovie Review: Review for Yochum - Megan Carone Summary: 4 Stars
This is an enjoyable movie for an excellent book. You won't be disappointed by differences in events or entire scences cut out in this movie version of a book. The only differences were how I imagined characters; the book describes the character of Tom to be a very tough strong man, but in the movie he is not. The rest of the cast is perfect for the roles. This movie is an exceptional portrayal of F. Scott Fitzgerald's book.
For those who have not read the book (although I strongly recommend it) this story is a great account of the 1920s. It shows the excitement and the fun of that time in American history, as well as a little added drama. From the dress to the extravagant life styles of the wealthy as well as the lower class, it shows us a wide-ranging view of the 1920s. This is an appealing movie from beginning to end, full of events and surprises.
Movie Review: Mark M- period 8 english Summary: 4 Stars
After reading and watching the Great Gatsby in my English class I would have to say that I enjoyed the novel much more than the movie. I think that in the movie version they changed too many things that were important to the story. But overall I think that the director Jack Clayton did a fairly good job. I would have to disagree with many people on these reviews that said that they did a poor job casting. I think that Robert Redford did a phenomenal job as Jay Gatsby as well as Sam Waterston as Nick Carraway. I enjoyed the movie because it really helped me to clarify the time, mood, and setting in which the novel takes place. The Great Gatsby is a story of love, the "American Dream", and life in 20's. I suggest that you read the novel if you truly want to capture the essence of story as well as "Roaring Twenties".
Movie Review: Great if not outstanding Summary: 4 Stars
I had the pleasure recently of re-reading the book and then watching both film versions. This version is definitely the one to watch. Not perfect by any means, the Robert Redford, Sam Waterston, Bruce Dern, and Mia Farrow version essentially captures the subtext of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel of the vapid lifestyle of the rich before the 1929 crash. Thanks to a superior script by Francis Ford Coppola and great acting by the entire cast, the meanning of Fitzgerald's novel become very clear without overstating the obvious. This film is a perfect companion to any discussion of the novel. Reviewers who cannot see what Gatsby sees in the flighty Daisy miss the point of the novel.
Movie Review: Anne Hess 5th Period Yochum Summary: 4 Stars
I thought that the movie was a good movie for the Great Gatsby. Its vivid pictures and scenes displayed the time period of the book very well. I really got a better understanding of what the parties of Gatsby were like and what kind of character he and the rest of the crew were. I did not like though how they left out some of the parts of the books, which were helpful to understand the whole movie. The actors all played their part very well and all exemplified their character, making it come to live just how i imagined it. The movie was really fun to watch and easy to follow. It is definaltey a movie that everyone should watch.
Movie Review: Fitzgerald's Story Comes to Life Summary: 4 Stars
This classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald has as far as I am aware of been made into two similiar but significantly different motion pictures. It is the version starring Robert Redford that I recommend as Redford gives a convincingly accurate portrayal of Gastby, the central character among a group of people whose lives are shattered by everything from adultry, dishonesty, accidental and deliberate murder, to hypocrisy in all its ugliness.
No stone shall be left unturned by movies' end in this stunning storyline that truly hits on the human condition.
