Movie Reviews of The GiftMovie Review: Loved it Summary: 5 Stars
The first time I saw The Gift was on tv, and after that I kept watching it. But the first time I saw it, it is scary because the unexpected creepy scenes jump out at you,i.e. when the pyschic sees Jessica King dead. It's a mystery/thriller, and for once in his career Keanu Reeves does a great job as an abusive husband. Hilary Swank is also worthy to be in the film as his ignorant wife. And buddy, played by Giovanni something, played a disturbed kid who blocked out his rough childhood. The pyschic is more like a therapist if you ask me. She tries to help people with their problems, whether it be physical health problems or marriage problems and repressed memories. It isn't a boring movie and it is very intriging as well as disturbing.
Movie Review: What a great ending ! Summary: 5 Stars
The end is worth watching this whole movie. With Giovanni Ribisi uttering this great line at the end that'll catch your thoughts. Cate Blanchett always amazes me with her ability do drop her Australian accent and take up the different regional accents of Americans she portrays (Pushing Tin, Bandits, Shipping News) and does it so flawlessly. She's got a fine supporting cast of the aforementioned Ribisi, Hilary Swank, Keanu Reeves, Gary Cole, Kim Dickens, J.K. Simmons and Greg Kinnear. Katie Holmes part is really minor, even tough she ends up being the subject of the greater storyline. Twists and turns that make it the more interesting. But above all, the stellar performance of Cate Blanchett as the psychic, Annie Wilson.
Movie Review: Best Thriller of 2000! Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this movie on December 22, 2000 in L.A. and I loved it. This movie is a mixture of What lies beneath and The sixth sense and it's as good as both of them. It entertains you from start to end and the special effects are wonderfull. It is beautifully crafted and very well acted, Cate shined her role through as all of her movies, Ribisi I think deserves at least a nod at the academy awards, Greg and Hilary were good as always, Katie Holmes was incredeble... her best role to date... she was very convincing with the character she had to play (the town biatch), and even keanu reeves (who I hate) did a good job. A great movie, I recommend it to all the Raimi lovers. See this movie!!!
Movie Review: Cate Blanchett is the next Meryl Streep Summary: 5 Stars
She is the only female since Streep that utterly disappers into her roles. Cate Blanchett is as American as apple pie in this movie. One would never know that she is a foreigner, and she is great in this role.
This a southern gothic movie that hits all the right notes. It's not great, just very good, but with Blanchett and Riviousi in their fabulous roles, it's utterly watchable and watchable and watchable.
This is one of those movies that is going to be played on tv for the next 50 years, just because it's a good story and is well cast. I own it, because it fits nicely in my SOLID MOVIES video collection.
Good job!
Movie Review: STRONG PERFORMANCES... EERIE AS HELL Summary: 5 Stars
I've been waiting for a movie like this for a long time. A movie that is ACTUALLY SCARY and not some cheesy attempt at a horror flick. That's EXACTLY what makes this movie so scary, it's NOT a horror flick. It doesn't try to scare you on purpose, the fear is REAL and it kind of creeps up on you slowly, but surely. Besides being very suspenseful, the cast could not have been better. Even Keanu plays his role down to perfection, and that's saying a lot. Overall great movie that will wrap you in so tight that you overlook any flaws. Definitely worth owning on DVD for its great eerie MAIN MENU.
