Movie Reviews of The GiftMovie Review: Better than I thought it would be, way better! Summary: 5 Stars
Let me start by saying I usually watch horror, sci-fi, action, and comedy movies, (mainly horror though) so maybe this will give you an idea if you would agree with this review: Anyway, I caught this movie on pay per view the other day and all I got to say is I thought it was one of the best movies I had see in a very long time. Only complaints I could see that some might see is: at times, one might say it would be slow (its far from boring though, and there is plenty of action, so don't get me wrong here, just saying certain spots in the movie.) Only other MINOR complaint is the effects are not up to some of the other Hollywood movies like Ghost Ship. Other than this, this movie kicks major but. It will hold your attention all the way through it, whether it was from the suspense, or just waiting to see what will come next. The movie is also very original, a lot of plots and stories in movies these days overlap ridiculously! I kept saying "I think this movie is obvious" because I thought it would end a certain way, and it did not. You can only try and guess the ending. I love the atmosphere of this movie too. If you like dark woods, swamps, ghosts, nightmares, murder, mystery with a twist, then your going to love this!!
Movie Review: A Very Spooky Ride Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is a true mystery/thriller and it will keep you on that roller coaster to the very end. You will be on the edge of your seat and the hair will be up on the back of your neck. This is one of the rare (these days) thriller scares without being an overtly gory or slasher film.Cate Blanchett plays a small town psychic that has "The Gift". You soon realize that her gift is more of a curse because she see flashes of previous or future events horrific in nature. Blanchett plays her as a vulnerable woman who is trying to support her two kids and supplement her income by reading cards for people. The tension progressively grows as Annie Wilson (Blanchett) has more an more visions of a woman who disappears and presumed dead. Will she solve the murder before the murderer comes after her? There's a plethora of suspects to watch. The only caveat I have is the total southern stereotyping is here, from the redneck wife-beater (played surprising well by Kneau Reeves) to the doughnut eating cop, the town tramp, etc....scenery reminded me more of Louisiana, than Georgia, but the eery moss covered trees and swamps coupled with some well done soundtrack, sets the mood well.
Movie Review: gift ...of vision of future... Summary: 5 Stars
A wonderful treat for mystery lovers... Fantastic star cast is the icing on top of an excellent plot. The cast led by Cate Blanchett is accompanied by Hilary Swank, Katie Holmes, Keanu Reeves, Greg Kinnear and Giovani Ribisi. Rabisi, for his role as a emotionally disturbed man who finds solace in the character of Cate Blanchett, deserves at the very least an Oscar nomination. Keanu Reeves also gives a performance worth noticing of an abusive husband to Hilary Swank. Katie Holmes up to the mark as the promiscuous, rich young woman of the small little town in Georgia, where the movie is set. As Holmes' fiancé Greg Kinnear plays a perfect southern gentleman with brilliant ease. The supernatural psychic powers of Cate Blanchett's character are the connotation of the title of the movie. The movie revolves around the disappearance and then murder of Holmes' character. The mystery unfolds as Blanchett gets premonitions leading to the real culprit. The film is grasping frame by frame. It is very delicately handled as required by the scripts involving paranormal activities, this is a worth see and own movie.
Movie Review: Great Acting in a Murder Mystery Summary: 5 Stars
When you first begin watching this movie, you may be thinking this isn't going to be a very good movie or this isn't your kind of movie, that's what I thought at first. You've got to give it a chance though, it's slow to start but eventually becomes an edge of your seat thrilling mystery. The acting in the movie is great, normally the movies with a lot of stars aren't well put together and the acting looks bad but not in this movie. This movie was well written and well played out. It was interesting to learn upon watching the special features this movie was written partially by Billy Bob Thorton. This movie brings out the best in some actors and actresses, specifically Keanu Reeves.
Don't let the certain terms used to describe this movie fool you into thinking this is just a horror movie or movie about some tarrot card reader because it's far more than that and the story goes much deeper.
Last but not least there is an added bonus for us guys, particulary the guys who like beatiful & sexy women and that would be the topless scene with Katie Holmes.
Overall I give the movie an A.
Movie Review: Sam Raimi's Truimphant Return To The Occult Summary: 5 Stars
Sam Raimi returns to his horror roots in "The Gift," his first horror film since 1993's "Army of Darkness." Raimi has come a long way since his "Evil Dead" days, but his obscure camera angles and tension building scenes still remain. The film reunites Raimi with Billy Bob Thornton, as they had worked together on the acclaimed "A Simple Plan." Thornton's screenplay is excellent (as would be expected) and a welcome change of pace in the modern horror genre. Although the directing and writing is good, the acting is what makes the film. The film's star, Cate Blanchett, plays a leading lady suprisingly well, but the supporting cast of Katie Holms, Greg Kennier, Hillary Swank, Giovanni Ribisi, and Keanu Reeves is amazing. Reeves and Ribisi are in top form, with over-the-top preformances as a wife-beating redneck and a slow-witted, ill-tempered mechanic. The film is low on gore, and high on tension, which makes it appealing to anyone looking for a good scare. If you liked "What Lies Beneath" this movie should "knock your socks off!"
