Movie Reviews of The Ghost Breakers

Movie Review: "For Old Time Sake"
Summary: 5 Stars

I watched this movie in a theater when I was a child - and it made a big impression on me then and it still leaves a big impression on me today. It is a great escape move, pure entertainment and enjoyment. A great Halloween flick! More innocent times, you may find a few comments made as inpolitically correct for today's standards - but remember these comments were made in a more innocent time than we live in now. If you love the old black and whites and just want to escape for a little while - this movie is for you!

Movie Review: Extremely pleasing to watch!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have watched this movie many times over a period of years. Bob Hope is at his best, and Paulette Goddard is beautiful and spunky! The dialogue is crisp and memorable. The plot and characters unfold perfectly. The clothing, furniture and architecture is the real stuff for the late 30's, including Edith Head gowns and even one hidden photo of a Varga painting. See the use of shadow to create three visual objects per scene, especially those with Willie Best. Just a super, very enjoyable movie!

Movie Review: The Ghost Breakers
Summary: 5 Stars

George Marshall's raucous comedy with goose-bumps is vintage Hope, who works extremely well with the seductive Goddard (newly divorced from real-life husband Charles Chaplin). Also on-hand are a menacing Paul Lukas, and-could it be-a very young Anthony Quinn! Black actor Willie Best also makes the best of a stereotypical part, and he and Hope give Jack Benny and Rochester a run for their money. If you're in the mood for laughs with some thrills thrown in, here's your movie.

Movie Review: You can't go wrong with this classic!
Summary: 5 Stars

Okay, so call me cheesy--but Bob Hope's gags STILL crack me up! This movie is just '40s perfect. All the actors are superb and this movie just makes me ache for the 40s when life seemed so simple ... and so SCARY!!!! The haunted castle on a haunted aisle ... way good fun! Although the "zombie" guy was never really "explained" but who cares. This movie has laughs, scares, a charming main character and a gorgeous damsel in distress! How can you give it less than 5 stars???

Movie Review: Hope in his prime and Goddard in her underthings.
Summary: 5 Stars

Paulette Goddard was a knockout. Her beauty is not something you can appreciate in passing. It's something you savor.

Bob Hope is in his prime here and has his magic going.

There are a few spots of race humor. Unfortunate, but not enough to ruin a funny movie.

You get to see Paulette Goddard in underwear and high heels.
