Movie Reviews of The Exorcist (The Version You've Never Seen)

Movie Review: Possibly The Most Overrated Horror Film Of All Time
Summary: 3 Stars

I know it pains most people to read this, and I can see the comments now, slamming my favorite movies just to make themselves feel they have superior taste and I'm missing out or some other lame tactic to ease their pain inflicted after I insulted this movie. Now don't get me wrong. The Exorcist is a milestone in horror, but it's just not that scary. It's not thrilling, it's not shocking, and it's just plain boring. It's extremely slow, and the dialogues are not spooky. All the talks of Satan really does evoke much dread or horror within me. To me, talks about satan is about the same as talking about the Boogeyman. Mostly about as scary as a fairy tale.

As an antagonist, I don't find Reagan to be that scary. There is no such thing as satan or his henchman. Not all fantasy is bad. Some fantasy is good because it's fascinating and fantastic. All Linda Blair does is grunt and groan in a comical voice. Seriously, that's it. Plus, considering that the antagonist is a demon, well, the demon is just another lame horror character, which is about as scary as the. Why? Because, simply, demons, demons and devils are FAKE. Serial killers like Jigsaw are realistic. The demon is about as scary as the Boogeyman. And the noises she makes aren't scary at all, they have as much scare tactic as a death metal vocalist. There I said it, and I like death metal!

Is there good? Yes. I really have nothing against the film, even though I don't like it. The production values are fine, the sound is great, as a piece of film-making, it does it's job well. Film-making deserves automatic points on my part, especially if it's effective and well done (definitely unlike Drake and Josh Goes To Hollywood). And while Linda Blair's character isn't thrilling, terrifying, or shocking as people make her out to be, The Crucifix scene still is disturbing and absolutely painful to watch. Highest props for that scene. I thought the spider walk was cool as well, delightfully morbid. There are some random possession scenes that are cool as well, but this film, overall, is too longwinded, boring, and, oh yeah, overrated.

Summary of The Exorcist (The Version You've Never Seen)

Something beyond comprehension is happening to a little girl on this street in this house. A man has been called for as a last resort to try and save her. That man is the exorcist. Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 09/13/2005 Starring: Ellen Burstyn Linda Blair Run time: 132 minutes Rating: R Director: William Friedkin
Director William Friedkin was a hot ticket in Hollywood after the success of The French Connection, and he turned heads (in more ways than one) when he decided to make The Exorcist as his follow-up film. Adapted by William Peter Blatty from his controversial bestseller, this shocking 1973 thriller set an intense and often-copied milestone for screen terror with its unflinching depiction of a young girl (Linda Blair) who is possessed by an evil spirit. Jason Miller and Max von Sydow are perfectly cast as the priests who risk their sanity and their lives to administer the rites of demonic exorcism, and Ellen Burstyn plays Blair's mother, who can only stand by in horror as her daughter's body is wracked by satanic disfiguration. One of the most frightening films ever made with a soundtrack that's guaranteed to curl your blood, The Exorcist was mysteriously plagued by troubles during production, and the years have not diminished its capacity to disturb even the most stoical viewers. Don't say you weren't warned! --Jeff Shannon
