Movie Review: All in a nice tidy box...
Summary: 5 Stars
with one of the most iconic images in movie history on the cover. This series is an interesting one to say the least. Friedkin's Exorcist is one the most taught and engaging thrillers that I have ever seen, Paul Schrader's Dominion thankfully saw the light of day and now we're able to see this fantastic film in its own right. Yes, that's right, I love Dominion. because it had the guts to discard all of the trappings of the genre and go for the themes that lay at the heart of the spiritual crises prevelant within the series. Personally, I think the other films are very unfairly slighted and dismissed. I think the Exorcist II is an aquired taste to put it mildly; yet I still enjoy some of the concepts within that film...its just that I think the execution went a little off course. The Exorcist III is just downright creepy and as far as the spat upon Renny Harlin film Exorcist: The Beginning...I think that it is fascinating to put this film and Dominion side by side given the tumultuous history of the production. The fact that a studio shelved a movie and then reshot the whole thing with the same sets, many of the same locations and actors and a similar story line is just mesmerizing. I think Harlin's film has its points of interest. Anyway, I won't go into the films as anyone who is purchasing this set is probably familiar with the series; yet I am delighted that the studio is putting out this set.
