Movie Reviews of The DuellistsMovie Review: OH, YES!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my second review here, the first was for the VHS tape. I'm pleased to say the great news is, FINALLY, THE DVD HAS DONE THIS MOVIE JUSTICE!!! This DVD fixes ALL my complaints about the video quality of the VHS tape, and then some! I was very surprised to find that the audio was greatly enhanced as well. You will only notice this if you have a stereo system capable of delivering the Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. I heard sounds I never heard before. This DVD is an absolute MUST for fans of this movie. A real pleasure!
Movie Review: Poignant morality play is visually stunning. Summary: 5 Stars
Absolutely blown away by this film I've never even heard of until about 105 minutes ago. Was just browsing around for something to watch on VOD. Settled for this. Watched it on a 19" computer screen. Blown away. I can only imagine what this is going to be like when I buy it on disk and watch it on my big screen.
If ever in your life you have felt like you have been unjustly targeted or antagonized, hence you would be totally justified in lashing out or striking back - watch this and learn. Gotta love Joseph Conrad.
Movie Review: Good movie Summary: 5 Stars
I first saw this movie in a theater, then when it was on cable, then I bought the VHS tape, now I have it on DVD.
I'm really not that familiar with uniforms or styles of the period, but I take it the films makers made sure they were correct,Harvey Keitel is excellent as the atagonist, and Keith Carradine is also perfect as the target of a maniacs spite and rage.
This movie is well done, the scenery is awesome, and the duels, well thats what makes this movie what it is,exciting, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Movie Review: The Duellists Summary: 5 Stars
One of the finest movies I've ever seen. Not only is the story fascinating, kind of a Les Miserables theme, but the costuming and scenery were beautiful. The whole movie was like an 18th Century French or Flemish painting.
The theme is dark, but very realistic and believable. Carradine and Keitel are both at their acting peak. Very suspenseful and riveting.
I've loved this movie for many years and gladly recommend it to anyone. This is an outstanding movie of the Napoleonic Age.
Movie Review: Good Lesson in the difference between Honor and Nobility Summary: 5 Stars
Fine job by Ridley Scott. The majority of the actors appear to try too hard with their characters; the exception being Harvey Keitel who portrays the antagonist with ease. Good period piece with the hardware to match, impressive hairstyles back then. Lessons learned in Honor abound throughout the movie. But the true noble act that defines the protagonist happens in the end. This should be part of any Ridley Scott collection and for those who would rather settle a disagreement personally.
