Movie Reviews of The Dogs of War

Movie Review: Still good after twenty some years
Summary: 4 Stars

Can only add to the other accolades. Whooped it up when I spotted the 'guide' in the bird-watching sequence as the same actor (Christopher Asante aka Gyearbuor Asante) playing the parish minister in "Local Hero" (what a change in roles) and that a much younger and thinner Jim Broadbent of "Topsy-Turvy" and "Moulin Rouge" has a negligible part as a cameraman. You'll also see Paul Freeman, George Harris, and Eddie Tagoe in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" made the same year. A good shoot'em up and the price is right. What a pity that the lovely Maggie Scott apparently never graced other films!

Movie Review: Very Engaging, Great Cast
Summary: 4 Stars

Wow Christopher Walken is so young and so amazing in this engaging war movie. I always enjoy him but I think here more than anything else I've seen him in. You've probably seen this plot portrayed in other films: mercenaries hired to do the bidding of multi-national corporate villians who of course view their hirelings as expendable...I won't give the rest away. Suffice it to say that the acting carries this and the filming and directing is also a class act. Get this if this kind of thing is your cup of tea. You won't be bored!

Movie Review: Excellent war film!
Summary: 4 Stars

I haven't seen the DVD, just the vid, but it's a film that I've watched many times. It holds up reallly well with repeated viewings, with another incredible performance by Walken. I don't consider the beginning slow, the episode in Zangaro is very creepy. I just wish David Lean had directed the movie, the story is worth it.

Movie Review: Footage Restored
Summary: 4 Stars

I was suprised to find that the VHS edition was missing over 10 minutes of footage, which is restored in the DVD edition. The restored footage serves to fill some gaps in the VHS edition storyline.

Movie Review: Vive la mort, vive la guerre, vive le sacre mercenaire!
Summary: 4 Stars

Better than the Forsythe book, a keeper. Technically pretty accurate, including a scene with a claymore mine showing "FRONT TOWARD ENEMY" then BOOM.
