Movie Reviews of The Disorderly Orderly

Movie Review: The Disorderly Orderly
Summary: 5 Stars

Extremely funny! Just as I remembered from when I was a child! When the pills roll across the floor I need oxygen!!

Movie Review: Paging Doctor Lewis...Doctor Lewis...
Summary: 4 Stars

Another hysterical Lewis vehicle has him playing hospital orderly Jerome Littlefield, who's his own worst enemy as well as a bumbling menace to both staff & patients. Directed with comic brilliance by Lewis' mentor Frank Tashlin, it's filled with great zany Lewis moments such as:
Lewis struggling with laundry, then disappearing down a chute.
His hysterical reactions of "sympathy pains" as a loud-mouthed patient graphically describes her ailments.
A wild, cartoonish sight gag has a straight-jacketed Lewis crawling across the screen...then passed up by a speedy cartoon snail!
A running gag with a patient mummified in a cast (who, at one point, rolls wildly down a hill).
Lewis turning a patient's room into a blizzard of feathers.
A wild, gag-filled ambulance finale.
The film also has the terrific Kathleen Freeman, once again serving as Lewis' comic foil & wonderfully boiling over to his antics. And I cackled with triumph when the mean, stodgy administrator became a victim of his own policies. I gave the film four stars because of both Lewis & Tashlin's maudlin melodramatic soap opera of a suicidal girl's subplot, which is painfully dated for today's audiences. But as a comedy, it has some wonderfully zany moments.

Movie Review: "The Disorderly Orderly's on Duty Tonight"
Summary: 4 Stars

I was born with a severe heart condition. In 1979, at age five, I had a brain abcess. In 1982 I had opened heart surgery. In 2004 I had a pacemaker implanter. This movie's medical humor is funny--and as you have read; I ought to know!

This is also one of the best romantic comedies I have seen (Jerry Lewis or otherwise). Believe it or not, it's a tearjerker.

Movie Review: Maybe my sense of humor has changed or something????
Summary: 3 Stars

I remembered seeing Cinderfella a long time ago and thinking it was so funny, so when I came across this film, I was excited about seeing it. Well, let's just say I could not finish this one. It just wasn't funny. Jerry Lewis was just loud and silly but that doesn't automatically equal funny in my book. I am going to rent Cinderfella soon and see if I still think that is funny. If I don't find it funny, I will amend this review because then I know my sense of humor has changed and I guess this really wouldn't be a fair review. Until then, I can't give it more than a few stars. It wasn't absolutely awful, but just wasn't fun or funny enough to hold my interest.
