Movie Reviews of The Dirty DozenMovie Review: Great movie. Summary: 5 Stars
The Dirty Dozen is one of those great classic war films, it has alot of action, drama and comedy in it and also has a great set of characters thats probably one of the best I have ever seen. Lee Marvin plays Major Reisman who is assigned to group together a dozen convicts to train and lead them into a mass assassination mission of German officers in World War 2, however this task is not going to be easy since some of these convicts like to defy authority. I found these characters to be very likeable despite some of these convicts being murderers, thieves and rapists but I guess thats why the movie works since the characters are in a struggle within themselves and with the army leaders who just mistreat them as if they were animals and so we see them rebel against them. These characters were very well developed and made for some great and interesting scene as they started to interact with each other, some of the acting was also fantastic but then again what do you expect from a great cast of actors like Donald Sutherland, Charles Bronson, Telly Savalas, Trini Lopez, George Kennedy ect. these actors are all legends in my opinion and my favorite was Cassavetes as the punk gangster Franco who was always complaining and was the funniest and Telly Savales as the sadistic maniac called Maggot. The film was made in 1967 and yet it didn't feel old well maybe just a little bit, anyway the film also has some nice setup and action scenes that were mind blowing. The Dirty Dozen is a classic action/war film thats guaranteed not to disappoint so check it out.
Movie Review: A Masterpiese in entertaining-war movies! Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is the best world war movie I've ever seen. It's not a boring historical movies like "The Longest Day". it's a timeless action movie.
The DVD release is very good too. very good picture and sound quality and a bunch of special features that you'll difinitly want to watch them after watching the movie. But beware, there is two release of this DVD which both available on amazon.com, the other release has a same cover as this one but has only a trailer and 9 min featurette. the problem is, it has approximately same price with this one which could be mistaken and unwittingly be choosen.
me, myself will gonna order delux edition of this movie cause i think it's worth it. if you are a collector, it would be good if you view that page and product too.
Movie Review: death by hanging Summary: 5 Stars
Inspired by the Brit film "Cockoshell Heroes", the Dirty Dozen is the template from which all other "social deviant soldiers as heros" movies were made through the late 60s to the 80s. Its worth the purchase just to see Donald Sutherland as a general (watch the idiotic band leader). This stuff has been done to death, but the original still is the best and worth the watch. A great combination of humor, drama and grissily violence! Lee Marvin excelled in this kind of role. One problem: where did they get all the ammo? The last 15 minutes has so much shooting that a dozen men would have had to lug a whole ammo dump to carry it out. A film for those who like their grenades "nice and gassy"!! (:-).
Movie Review: Dirty Dozen DVD Summary: 5 Stars
Train them! Excite them! Arm them!...Then turn them loose on the Nazis! Charles Bronson, Donald Sutherland, Telly Sevallas, and the rest of a group of GI's all of whom are imprisoned for various serious crimes get a "deal" from Lee Marvin -- attack a German R & R center full of brass. If you live you get a pardon, if you don't it doesn't matter. Ernest Borgnine plays the role of the general who sells the idea to Marvin. This was shot about the time that Bornine was playing Quinton McHale in McHale's Navy on TV -- a character who was always looking for the angle to get out of the fight. Quite a contrast. Good photogray and and excellent score.
Movie Review: "Wreckless Redemption" Summary: 5 Stars
After I read the book, I had to see this movie. How would this all- star cast of moviedom's all-time tough guys, Marvin, Bronson, Borgnine, Savalas, Casavettes, put on a production and not overshadow each other? Well, they did so beautifully, and we have an extremely entertaining movie, as Marvin who is trying to redeem himself with superiors is given a suicide mission that he must execute with a troop of dangerous criminal types and murderers. It is unforgettable and entertaining, to say the least.
