Movie Reviews of The Desperate Trail

Movie Review: Any western will do!
Summary: 4 Stars

Not a great movie or acting, but not as bad as some of the reviews I have read. It is a western, so how bad can it be?

Movie Review: GOOD GRIEF - I MUST HAVE SEEN THE WRONG MOVIE!
Summary: 3 Stars

I will admit that I bought it for Sam Elliott -- but what a disappointment.
He is great in the character that he portrays, Bill Speakes, a Marshall? He is apparently blinded to the true character of his son.

Sarah O'Rourke, was she married to the Marshall's son? Hot Diggity to the black eyes given to the character on the stage who bullies his wife.

Jack Cooper was a plausible con-man - Did he and she come out of the shoot-out alive?
With Cooper looking out for his brother and generally acting honorable to Sarah, he came out almost decent in character.

Could have done without the poor gal who did the bare top scene - nothing alluring there!
Not one of the better westerns that I have seen. And I know that Sam Elliott has done better. [I hope]

Ah well, don't waste your money on the DVD -- no extras, no intel on the actors and their characters.
See it if you must!

Movie Review: A Western 'Noir' That's A Bit Different
Summary: 3 Stars

This western starts out very well, then gets too Rambo-ish, meaning the bad guys can't hit the side of a barn with their shots. Despite that credibility problem, it's a pretty good film with excellent sound, nice cinematography and some interesting special-effects. The soundtrack also is different. Speaking of sound, I was disappointed to hear an excessive amount of Lord's name in vain in here.

Actually, this is a modern-day film noir put in a western setting.

Edgy characters played by Sam Elliott (the ultimate cowboy face), Craig Sheffer, Linda Fiorentino (hard-nosed, as always), Bradford Whitford and Frank Whalley dominate the film. This is not a movie with a lot of good guys. It may be too edgy for many, especially those (and I'm one) who prefer Elliott to play nicer characters.

Movie Review: Another good Sam Elliot western
Summary: 3 Stars

Even in modern times the battered wife has had trouble.
Here Linda Fiorentino plays the battered wife of a Marshal's son,
who finally defends herself with deadly force.
We find them on a stage going back to where she will be hanged.
Love is sometimes found in unexpected places.
It seems strange to have the usual hero as the villain and also
a law man?
I really didn't believe the story line
as the love seems a little sudden to be that strong?
This movie doesn't end well for anybody.

Movie Review: Bonnie & Clyde Done Gone West...?
Summary: 3 Stars

A little Donald Duck, a little Bonnie & Clyde, and where is this going...? But most of all... who was the bad, the ugly, and the good in this movie...?
