Movie Reviews of The Day AfterMovie Review: The most emotional movie I've experienced Summary: 5 Stars
The special effects are dated, that aside, one of the most potent movies I've ever seen.
With the increased rise in misinformation about what a nuclear exchange truly entails this is one movie everyone on earth should be forced, at gun point, to watch. There is no excuse for anyone to be ignorant of the most basic of facts about nuclear apocalypse. That anyone thinks it might be survivable is a fool, that some of these are in positions to make decisions or elect leaders to make decisions is apocalyptic, I do not speak in hyperbole here.
This movie, makes the actors seem real, goes through their lives for as long as it takes to make them real, then shows one the teeth of the apocalypse. At the end it is stated that almost total annihilation, sterility and death are the BEST CASE SCENARIO. They see fit to show that it doesn't matter how rich or pious or white you are, that all flesh is grass by the light of a nuclear sunrise.
Movie Review: I Remember Summary: 5 Stars
I was 7 years old when this thing came out and remember seeing it on TV and how it impacted me. I wasn't scared, just very awed. My parents were back and forth in letting me watch it in the first place. But in the end, I was able to see it. Growing up my parents were careful in what they allowed in the home from the outside world such as violence, promiscuity...you know, the typical. But when it came to 'real issues', they were a little more open. They taught us to never feel "too comfortable" with life because you never know what can happen. A good example, 9/11. They taught us to be prepared mentally and physically in case a catastrophe hits. But at the same time, they also taught us a balance that we need to live by as well. Because one cannot be too paranoid so that it takes over our lives, that in itself can be as bad as the catastrophe. This movie is a good wake up call for all of us and how we all need to be prepared.
Movie Review: "W-A-R-N-I-N-G- we're under a Nuclear attack!" Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is more direful than any other "horror" movie ever made. The day after shows the chaotic situation that the inhabitants of Kansas city would face, in a case of a hypothetical nuclear war between the two cold war period super-powers, the U.S. and the Soviet Union.
I guess people who lived in the 60's, 70's and 80's, had experienced a constant tension situation, because the imminent treat of a davastating nuclear war! In my opinion, the most chocking fact is not the harmful effects proceeding from the radiation...The most chocking is the social chaos.
Without laws nor order, people will start to live "each one for itself", literally...I remember a scene when a family keep to its shelters and provisions with a gun, from another possible survivors. So, It seems that solidarity disappears in a case of a nuclear catastrophe...
Really frightful!!!
Movie Review: Great early tv movie Summary: 5 Stars
This film is revolutionary in my opinion, because it broke the boundaries of the televised film at a time when tv storytelling technique was quickly evolving. The subject matter seems to have pushed the format forward and what results is a strange hybrid of tones. The performances are both smoothed for the medium and roughed up for the content. This was before editing for television so aggressively engaged the audience, but the subtlety of the acting choices seems to presage that. Characters are battling insanity, in a mainstream tv context, so the challenge is particularly high. It is almost theatrical in the use of stock footage. I'm especially impressed that they didn't sink into a morass of moralism with the script. The spare quality of the third act is almost like a classic foreign film, and the unfinished feeling in many of its plot elements is a relief rather than a disappointment.
Movie Review: Very scary because it could have happened Summary: 5 Stars
When I watched this 20 years ago I found it scary then and it still made my heart beat faster watching today. The scary part was when it was evident to most people that war was going to happen and people panicking. I had tears come to my eyes when the farmer had to force his wife to quit making the bed and get to the shelter. When she had to face what was happening the cry of despair from her is heartbreaking. To know that your life and your love ones life is essentially over in such a abominable way...
Goggle September 26, 1986 and find out how close we came to nuclear war. I just came into Colorado that day for a new life here. So close to the end of the world it's chilling!
We have different world today but we are not safe from this horrific ending. It would be another scenario but the same tragic results.
