Movie Reviews of The Crow - Wicked Prayer

Movie Review: it COULD have been a great movie...
Summary: 3 Stars

I really thought The Crow: Wicked Prayer (Crow 4) could have been a great movie. It was a new take on the films, having a new setting (on an indian reservation) and a new type of character playing the crow (someone with a sorted past). I really felt Edward Furlong was a great choice for the crow, he was convincing in his emotions. The villains in this movie are devil worshipers and their mission is to make their leader the devil. Half way through the movie everything fell apart. The Crow villains in 1 and 2 were eccentric characters, so you have to accept that the villains in 4 are eccentric also, but this was pathetic. There is a devil worshiping pimp nick-named "el nino" and he keeps refering to the devil as "o.g" (original gangster) and tries so hard to speak like a gangster, but he is played by Dennis Hopper so it was like listening to your parents (or grandparents) trying to use your slang. horrible. After that David Boreanaz's character was corny and over-eccentric, it really took away from the seriousness of the Crow's mission. If they would have cut out all the corny pimp stuff and made David Boreanaz's character a little more serious it could have been a great movie. I gave Crow Wicked Prayer 3 stars because the rest of the cast did an excelent job and because this movie truly had potential.

Movie Review: The best Crow after the second one
Summary: 3 Stars

Well, I think Im that fan of The Crow that the other reviewers were blabbering around. First of all, you can see that the movie was low budged-direct to video, what can you expect from that? The first one, well is one of the coolest cult movies of all time. The second one was ok. The third one was an insult with an spit added to it; the guy as the crow looked more like a clown and you really wanted him to be dead. The fourth installment in the series tries hard to pull back some elements of the first film. I liked they've recovered the dark looks of The Crow for the costume. The overall acting? meh! what can you expect if someone tell the super stars they will be going to pay them 10 grands for acting in some "birdie" movie that never was gonna hit the theaters? its totally comprensible. The Crow: Wicked Prayer is a bad movie, but not that bad as I thought it was gonna be, or at least not that bad as the third one. For mental health and if you're a "Star Wars, bantha poodoo fan-I believe Im a Skywalker fan" do not watch this movie. If you're open minded to see what movies without millonaire high budgets have to offer, this will be suitable to watch on a lonely evening.

Movie Review: Hmmm.....
Summary: 3 Stars

Well, I have to say that this was one of the most "interesting" Crow movies yet. Mainly for the fact that I didnt know what was going to happen next. I mean, who would of expected a Satanic Pimp Priest? Or that satan would act like a 17 year old on acid, but with the dress style of the 50's. Edward was a little silly looking in his outfit but he was the best actor in the movie and he played his character very well. I think that this movie could have been one of the best yet if they would of took all the silly crap out and maybe had a bigger budget. The movie was a nice watch and I never hated a moment of it, I just thought that it could have been alot better. My main problem was the main villian. I never really liked Angel and that guy just bothers me for some reason. If this movie would of tried to stay serious than It might have been put in the theaters but I honestly didnt see how this movie was going to save the Crow series and I dont see how the director was trying to make it for the theaters. But all in all, it was an straight up movie and Im sure you may get some enjoyment out of it.

Movie Review: A swing in the right direction
Summary: 3 Stars

I found the second film in the series to be putrid, and the third to be even worse, so I wasn't expecting a lot from this. I was impressed. The first film was a classic for the ages. The first two sequels tried to duplicate the feel of the original, and failed miserably - as much due to terrible scripts as to anything else. This one went a different direction, seeking to develop its own personality, taking the legend of the Crow back to its Native American roots. It's nowhere near the quality of the original - then again, that would be very difficult to accomplish since the original was a masterpiece, but it's still pretty entertaining. I felt they could have done more with the soundtrack, but again, they may have chosen to go simple in that area to distinguish it from being just another lousy copy of the original like the others were. But the story was solid, and the acting was pretty good too. It's no 5, but it's not a 1 either.

Movie Review: Go big Dave
Summary: 3 Stars

There is only one reason to buy this video -- to watch David Boreanaz seamlessly blend his characters Angelus and Herb Saunders from Angel. That, he does beautifully, presenting an entirely over the top perfromance that out-Hoppers Dennis Hopper in its bizarre intensity. It made me feel like I was watching Boreanaz himself cut loose at some party. And it was a lot of fun to watch that.

The rest of the movie? After the first 20 minutes I fast-forwarded through everything that didn't involve Boreanaz. It tried to combine mysticism and...I'm not really ceratin what else...camp, perhaps? to the detriment of both. It's neither mystical nor campy in the aggregate.

Still, if you are a fan of any of the actors in the movie, its probably worth a viewing to watch them strut their stuff. And the extra material about the choice of cars? Pretty funny.
