Movie Reviews of The Crow - Wicked Prayer

Movie Review: The Crow Must Fly Again...
Summary: 4 Stars

Finally, after almost a year of rumored release dates for theatrical and then Direct-to-DVD release, "The Crow: Wicked Prayer" finally comes to DVD, and it does not disappoint.

"The Crow: Wicked Prayer" follows yet another 'Crow' in the form of Jimmy Cuervo (Edward Furlong), basically a pariah in the eyes of a small indian town. Cuervo's love for the daughter of a local pastor causes much concern in the town, because of Cuervo's questionable past in which he allegedly murdered a man. Jimmy and his love are happy together, even though many would love to see them broken apart; however, happiness is not long for the couple as a satanic cult led by Luc Crash (David Boreanaz) and his girlfriend (Tara Reid), kill the couple in a satanic ritual designed to bring forth the Apocalypse. Jimmy is resurrected by the mysterious 'Crow' and sets out on his quest for vengeance and to clear his name once and for all.

I knew that I would probably like this movie, though I thought I would end up a little disappointed, since this was the fourth film in the franchise and would most likely not present that much of a difference from any of the previous films. However, I was wrong, with the addition of the exploration of the series' mythology, and having the new 'Crow' not be as innocent a victim as the previous incarnations, this film brought some fresh, new ideas to the franchise. Another nice touch on the part of the filmmakers, was that of changing the environment, removing the urban locations and setting the film in the west, allowed for a nice change of scenery and provided the filmmakers a great outlet for explaining the mythology behind the legend of the 'Crow'.

With solid acting and storytelling, "The Crow: Wicked Prayer" delivers audiences another engrossing tale of justice, while continuing to build on the legend of the 'Crow'. Fans of the series and even newcomers will enjoy this film as it not only continues the saga of 'The Crow' franchise, but also can serve as a standalone film.

"The Crow: Wicked Prayer" is rated R for violence and language.

Movie Review: The Crow takes flight *Might Contain Spoilers*
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been a fan of The Crow franchise since the first movie came out, I've liked the sequels, the comics, the novels, and some aspects of the television series. Basically I love The Crow mythos. When it was announced that the next film would be inspired by novel Crow: Wicked Prayer, which I thought was good, but focused too much on the bad guys, I was skeptical. But now having seen the film...It did not dissapoint me. What I liked about Wicked Prayer was that it was different from the other films, it wasn't a rehash and it wasn't a straight on revenge story in. In this film we have a not so innocent man named Jimmy Cuervo and his Native American girlfriend Lily Ignites the Dawn being killed "for the blue eyes on an Injun and the heart of a cold blooded killer" at the hands of Luc Crash and his gang of Satanists. What's interesting is that the crow (bird) brings Jimmy back to life to make the wrong things right even though he himself wasn't a truly innocent person. Even in death, Jimmy hates what he has become, he's trying to forget that he was a murderer when he was alive and no he finds himself in a position where he MUST kill to be reunited with Lily in the afterlife. Even the bad guys have backstories and reasons for doing what they do, it's a nice added bit of developement that the previous films didn't have. All in all, I'd say this is a worthy installment of The Crow series, while it does have faults and some of the acting is borderline at times, this is a film I think most fans of The Crow will enjoy, it may take a few viewings before they get it (like it did with me), but I think they'll enjoy it.

Movie Review: I actually liked this one! Wowzers!
Summary: 4 Stars

Now before I write this review let me tell you the story of how I saw this movie: it was on SciFi not too long ago, and I set my DVR to record it so I could watch it late at night (I have a midnight movie thing where I watch dark movies at midnight because I can't sleep). Anyhoo, it records it and so I'm watching it, and about an hour and 10 minutes into it the thing pops up that says "Delete or Keep?" and I'm like "WHAT THE HELL?!" So I didn't see the whole thing.
But from what I saw, I really liked it. I thought it was the best sequel out of the two I saw (this and City of Angels). I thought it was awesome how they set it in the dessert, because that was a nice twist to the story, changed it up a bit, ya know? I also liked the character, Jimmy Cuervo, a regular joe who kinda killed someone when he was younger and is hated by everyone in town and is just getting off parole and is about to ask the love of his life to marry him. Good romantic movie to watch with your girlfriend, right? Well it gets better, see, this Satanic cult comes and completely SNUFFS his girl out right infront of him Guinea Pig style while they're both hanging from nooses. Then he comes back to avenge her death, you know the story.
Even though I didn't see the second half yet, I can safely say the first half was really good. The second half could be worse than anything else ever made EVER. Worse than Santa Claus Conquers the Martians! Haha, doubt it, it's probably good. I'll have to wait to see it though.

Movie Review: Lots of clairvoyant people here
Summary: 4 Stars

Boy O Boy...this movie is a straight to video movie, which means nobody has ever even seen it yet, and yet we have people giving this movie a one star rating. Man, I guess I'm in the wrong business. For all these psychics telling us how much this movie will suck before anyone ever views it, must pay well. So just for that, I'm giving it 4 stars just in spite of all the 1 star ratings. So nyah!

Anyway, I agree with the fella who said 'get off the Brandon Lee' comparisons. He's right. Each Crow movie has been about a different character who has risen from the dead thru the power of the crow due to their own circumstances. The Crow movies are a continuation of Eric Draven's story, they're their own.

Is Edward Furlong a wise choice for the new Crow? Who knows? He may be pretty good, although his career went down the tubes after T2. Was Eric Mabius from Crow: Salvation a good one? Eh, perhaps, Quite frankly, I thought Crow: City of Angels was not that bad either. At least they tried to stick close to the "look" of the first one with a long-haired "artist" look.

So here's my advice for future reviewers of this film on Amazon. Wait till the thing comes out before you slam it with a 1-star review. You never know, it actually could be the best of the sequals so far. I've seen some screenshots from the set and it looks like it has an interesting color pallette with lots of blacks and reds.

Movie Review: I Loved Most Of This Movie
Summary: 4 Stars

This fourth movie in the crow series has some really great moments but other parts of the movie really bad....I will compare and contrast the pros and cons...

The Pros (which there were more of) The acting REALLY GREAT
The fight scenes very creative..not as violent as the first
Not so much sex in this movie as in part 2 (thank god)
And it had an amazing touching love story

The CONS: Some of the writing in this movie was down right awful if they had gotton a better writer it would have been a heck of a lot better
It was set in day time as the first 3 were not
The plot was at times a little far fetched(but its the crow you just have to go with the story)

All in all i did love this movie (fix up the cons and 5 stars)
I reccomend this movie to any die hard crow fan!
