Movie Review: Perfect

THE CROW movies are my favorite action movies of all time. They are each well acted, well directed, well written, and are all beautiful in their own ways.THE CROW is one of my favorite films of all time. It has great performances by Brandon Lee, Ernie Hudson, Michael Wincott, and Rochelle Davis. Alex Proyas was a great director for this film, showing the present in either a dark way or with lots of red with the sad flashback scenes very colorful. When there is no talking, the film is still highly interesting with the fun action scenes, the great music, and the exciting, gloomy visuals. I give this a 5 out of 5!

THE CROW: CITY OF ANGELS is very underrated. People put it down because they compare it to the original, but it's really a completely different story with the same concept. This one has great performances by Vincent Perez, Mia Kirshner, and Richard Brooks (and an ok performance by Iggy Pop). This time, the director (Tim Pope) shows a post-apocalyptic/S&M-like Los Angelus and the colors are yellow, green, red, and blue. The main villain is not as cool as in the original and his death is kind of silly but that is the only negative thing I can say about this beautiful, dark and haunting sequel. I give it a 4 out of 5.
THE CROW: SALVATION is another great story to add to THE CROW legacy! Starring great actors like Eric Mabius, Kirsten Dunst, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, William Atherton, and Fred Ward, and a tone more close to the original, this one is probably better then number 2. Eric Mabius plays a better Crow then Perez (but no one will beat Brandon Lee), and Kirsten Dunst is great as the heroine who helps him. This one also adds something fresh: a murder mystery. Alex is searching for the killer (or killers) who butchered his girlfriend and framed him for the murder. The only bad thing I can say about this is that the villains (especially the main one) were one-dimensional losers. I give this a 4.5/5.
Overall, this is a great series. I can't wait for THE CROW: WICKED PRAYER starring Edward Furlong as The Crow and David Boreanaz as the villain. Overall, I give this series and boxset a 5 out of 5!

One year after his death, Eric returns -- watched over by a hypnotic crow -- to seek revenge. THE CROW: CITY OF ANGELS: The murder victim (Vincent Perez) of an evil drug cartel is brought back to life by a mysterious crow to exact revenge on his killers one by one! THE CROW: SALVATION: Wrongly executed for the murder of his girlfriend, Alex Corvis (Eric Mabius) returns to find the real killer -- aided by his girlfriend?s sister (Kirsten Dunst) ... and the mysterious crow!The Crow set the standard for dark and violent comic-book movies (like Spawn or director Alex Proyas's superior follow-up, Dark City), but it will forever be remembered as the film during which star Brandon Lee (son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee) was accidentally killed on the set by a loaded gun. The filmmakers were able to digitally sample what they'd captured of Lee's performance and piece together enough footage to make the movie releasable. Indeed, it is probably more fascinating for that post-production story than for the tale on the screen. The Crow is appropriately cloaked in ominous expressionistic shadows, oozing urban dread and occult menace from every dank concrete crack, but it really adds up to a simple and perfunctory tale of ritual revenge. Guided by a portentous crow (standing in for Poe's raven), Lee plays a deceased rock musician who returns from the grave to systematically torture and kill the outlandishly violent gang of hoodlums who murdered him and his fiancée the year before. The film is worth watching for its compelling visuals and genuinely nightmarish, otherworldly ambience. --Jim Emerson
