Movie Reviews of The Crossing

Movie Review: Great movie, great history
Summary: 5 Stars

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie version of the historic event it recreates. I never had a great appreciation for this event, and it's significance in U.S. history, until seeing this movie. Sure, you should always verify the facts, since movies often take liberties with the facts, but this one was pretty close. Also enjoyed the moments of humor, like Glover's slight on General Knox. You can't help but smile. :)

Movie Review: The true Washington crossing the Delaware
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this DVD after seeing it on TV. It goes into detail on the true crossing of the Delaware by Washington and his troops during the crucial battle of Trenton, a turning point in the revolutionary war. There is a lot of bloodshed shown -just as it was in real life-.
This DVD may be more instructive than any history book, to a young person wishing to learn more about the revolutionary war.

Movie Review: Beautifully done in all respects
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie was well done on every level. Good script, believable acting, excellent editing, great direction. I really liked the way Jeff Daniels portrayed Washington -- strong, understated and always believable. This movie works on every level and absolutely makes you feel like you're "there". When a historical drama is able to make you feel transported back through time, it has succeeded.

Movie Review: history well done
Summary: 5 Stars

quite an excellent view of Washington's crossing coupled with the historical context which showed the importance of winning the early morning battle. Jeff Daniels is excellent as Washington showing both the restraint and natural charisma of the man. Hamilton is a bit overstated but so was the man himself. This was history well done-factual, fast-paced, and entertaining.

Movie Review: Movie entertains while educating
Summary: 5 Stars

As a history teacher, this is one of 2 movies I show to my classes every year. It is definitely worth watching for purely entertainment purposes, but it is also extremely educational. It brings the remarkable battle of Trenton to life in a way that textbooks cannot. I watch this movie 7 times a year, but the ending still gives me chills every time.
