Movie Review: Complete FUN

This is a light hearted romp of a pirate movie. I wish I had been able to see it on the big screen. I have seen it several times on TV but this cannot compare to the quality of the DVD.The color and sound are brilliant and crisp. A must for your library, this one you will watch over and over again. The music is fun and exciting with great use of the oboe in the score. Who better than Burt and Nick to portray pirates (doing all of their own stunts too). The movie was shot before widescreen was used so you get the full screen image and still see the movie as it was shown in the theater.Movie Review: Great for the youngsters and young at heart

Saw this as a kid at a Saturday matinee. And this is the perfect Saturday matinee kind of movie (assuming they're not showing a western, of course). Lots of spirit and laughs. Super stunts which Lancaster and his sidekick pull off with gusto. Vivid color. What's not to like. Story is average plus but what it lacks is made up for in the fact the movie doesn't take itself serioulsy at all, and is used primarily to link the physical stunts. It's all fun and it's all good. Best pirate adventure right up to Disney's Curse of the Black Pearl.Movie Review: Better than Pirates of the Caribbean

It was fun to watch Burt Lancaster frolic on the ropes of his sailing frigate. After watching serious roles that he played in Elmer Gantry, Mr. 880, the Train, Bird Man of Alcatraz, and Judgment at Nurenberg, it was refreshing to see him back recreating his days as an acrobat. He is like Sean Connery. Dashing when he was young, and handsome as he aged. His circus sidekick was also a delight to watch, and, as a team, they were unbeatable. Burt obviously loved this role, as he is smiling from start to finish. A real adventure.Movie Review: Good Old Hollywood

I am a shiplover, age 65 and when this movie came to Europe in the mid 50ties it was my absolute favorite Piratemovie. Now, after so many years I was most delighted to see it again and to have it in my DVD collection!!!. Most admirable the technical standard. The fullsize ships, especially the 30 gun frigate are superb.
I was most impressed about the excellent picture quality of the DVD. What about "Captain Horatio Hornblower" with Gregory Peck. It's still only on VHS.
Movie Review: The Crimson Pirate seen again after many years

I saw the original theater release - and was reminded again of one of the funniest takeoffs on "Pirate" movies. Lancaster is often thought of as a dramatic actor (see Elmer Gantry), but here he shows great comedian skills combined with amazing physical stunts. My wife had never seen the movie, and she laughed herself almost into histeria. - so it is a great movie to see the first time, and just as wonderful the 2, 3,.....? times.
