Movie Reviews of The Children's Hour

Movie Review: Thought-provoking even for a teenager
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this movie when I was a young teenager. Although I didn't understand 100% the rumor about the two protagonists, I recall the impact the movie had on me when I saw Shirley Mac Laine in her final scene. I was stunned by the possible ramifications of idle gossip. Because of the movie's impact on me, I would recommend this to a teenage crowd, which today is a lot more sophisticated than I was in the late sixties.

Movie Review: Wonderful!
Summary: 5 Stars

Audrey Hepburn has always been one of my favorites. In this film, in the company of Shirley MacLaine and James Garner, she is again phenomenal. The entire cast is truly brilliant, not to mention the story itself.
Even though it's been years since the film was made, the topic itself remains (unfortunately) very much up to date. Don't waste naother minute - watch this movie now!

Movie Review: OVERACTING, BUT GREAT FLICK!
Summary: 5 Stars

The mean little girl steals the movie with her BAD SEED role. This is one of my favorite films. I wish they could have added special features. It would be interesting to know how they made it. The actress, who played the grandmother(?) of the bad girl, did the best acting; but, they don't sell movie tickets by giving an Oscar to her: the big stars got all the credit. BUY IT!

Movie Review: Gripping
Summary: 5 Stars

Besides the stellar performances of Hepburn, MacLaine, and Garner, you see older film stars Miriam Hopkins and Fay Bainter still performing at their best. The plot involving the homosexual school teacher, the mean-spirited child, and the gossipy grandmother takes a few twists and turns that are unexpected. It's a dark film, but I'm afraid very true even today.

Movie Review: Great!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been aware of this movie for the past 20 years, but did not see it until recently. I wasn't aware that Shirley MacLaine was one of the lead actors...this is one of her best performances, one she deserved an Oscar for, and might well have if not for the content at the time, 1961. She outshines Hepburn and Garner both.
