Movie Reviews of The Cheap Detective

Movie Review: The Cheap Detective
Summary: 5 Stars

It was very amusing to follow all the "references" to other great movies - Casablanca, Maltese Falcon. So many great actors: Peter Falk, Madeline Kahn, Louise Fletcher,Ann Margaret, John Houseman as Sidney Greenstreet was fabulous, Fernando Lamas as Paul Henreid's character - all of the cast was really great in their roles. It was fast moving (and I had to watch it twice to catch all the hilarity) and a laugh every second. It is a movie that can be watched again when one wants to have a good laugh again and again. I recommend this to anyone looking for a good and fast moving "story" by Neil Simon.

Movie Review: 'Nice catch Mr Pekinpah, I was almost a widow!'
Summary: 5 Stars

All the female characters in The Cheap Detective have soild, yet very funny roles - Marsha Mason, Eileen Brennan, Stockard Channing, Louise Fletcher, Madeline Khan and Ann-Margret all play their characters with gusto. The ladies definately fair better than their male counterparts (Peter Falk aside). There are so many winks and nods to the 40's film noir genre especially The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep and Casablanca. I am no longer able to watch one of those classics without laughing; in fact, when I do watch one of those films I have to turn the film off and put The Cheap Detective on instead!

Movie Review: The Cheap Detective is NOT a Cheap Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Okay, price-wise it was; but, it's funny. There is a great humor added to this movie in the lines of Police Squad and The Pink Panther series. Some things are quick and over your head if you aren't there to catch it. And, the second time you see it you will get some things you missed before. It's like watching Clue in that respect. The plot does kind of seem slow, but those slow moments are filled with pretty funny gags.

I highly recommend this film if you have an intelligent humor and enjoy zany, over-the-top Stooges-ish fun.

Movie Review: The Cheap Detective
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a truly excellent film. It was written by Neil Simon and directed by Robert Moore. This movie parodys old gangster films and other movies like Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, and more. Even if you haven't seen those classics, it still supplies a ton of laughs. If you like this film, definately check out my favorite movie of all-time, Murder by Death.

Movie Review: Cheap Thrills
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a fabulous parody with Peter Falk doing a great job as the lead. He seems to do the detective, semi to very comedic so convincingly that he gets casts frequently. This is demonstrated by his character "Columbo" in the TV series and his role in the hilarious "Murder by Death". Lovers of this movie should also enjoy "Clue" as well.
