Movie Reviews of The Champ

Movie Review: A Real Tearjerker.
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved this film from start to finish. I just bought the DVD from Amazon and it played all the way through, no problem. I was a little worried when I ordered it because I read the other customer's reviews and had problems with the DVD being defective. I first saw this film in 1996 when I was 11 when I missed it on TV and I rented it from the video store. I liked the part where the Champ (Jon Voight) gave T.J. (Ricky Schroder) the horse and it touched my heart. The part in scene 17 where Annie (Faye Dunaway) reveals to T.J. that she is his mother is a little disturbing. There is a little foul language in it, but other than that it is a great film for the family.

When you watch this film, don't forget the Kleenex box and this is one of the films that really made me cry. I recommend this film to everyone!

10/10

Movie Review: A great 'tearjerker'...
Summary: 5 Stars

... and one in which a child actor (Rick Schroeder) manages to upstage every adult actor in the film! Admittedly, everyone in the movie is a bit 'too' sincere/earnest/honest, a quality the media would like us to believe vanished forever with the 1970's (it doesn't sell products), but which is actually timeless and has gone nowhere.

The issues this movie deals with are timeless as well (divorce, father/son relationships, etc.) and are still completely valid today. An excellent 'family' film (which means you, unless you were born in a test tube). Occasionally bordering on melodrama but never once crossing the line, this film is a great antidote to the soulless, empty pieces of corporate desperation being marketed as "movies" these days. Recommended!

Movie Review: This is definately a classic....
Summary: 5 Stars

I remember when I saw this movie for the first time. I was 8 years old and it was the first time I ever cried at a movie. It was the first time I ever felt totally affected by a movie. At that time they passed out promotional buttons when you left the theater that said "I saw the Champ". I wore it everyday for a week. Ricky Schroeder steals the movie from all the adults in this movie (you can't take your eyes off of him). He gave a performance that is to this day unmatched by a child his age (yes, better than the kid from the Sixth Sense). I am so glad it has come out on DVD WITH extras! I have preordered 3 copies (for myself and my friends who don't know how awesome this movie is). I can't wait until they come.

Movie Review: Jon Voight finest hours and greatest movie.A true Classic.
Summary: 5 Stars

Seen it again last night on DVD and what can I say its still pack the same powerfull punch after more then 20 yrs since it was first release.I can still remember audience crying walking out of the cinema when it play in my country. It was so popular and people still talk about this movie till now.Jon Voight in my humble opinion is one of the greatest underatted actor I've ever seen.In Champ he was nominated for best actor golden globe but missed the oscar,he should have won for this film and I just wondering why it was snub in the oscar.A 5 star movie and a must see for all.Thank you Mr Voight and Zeffirelli for making this a memorable one for all of us.

Movie Review: Should viewed by all teens as they contemplate marriage someday.
Summary: 5 Stars

The only negative is the irreverant use of God's name. The movie is one that all men should view whenever they want to take marraige, or sex in general, lightly. The pain and hurt that adults put on children just because they put their own sexual desires ahead of long-term thought is depicted so well in this film.
This is an excellent movie to be watched by an entire family to open up productive communication between parents and teens.
