Used to watch this movie when I was younger, loved it then and love it now. I was ecstatic to find it on dvd.
Movie Review: My 3 Year Old Daughter Loves This Movie Summary: 5 Stars
It is a wonderful movie. I enjoyed it when I was little, and now my daughter is to.
Movie Review: Childhood's A-Callin'! Summary: 4 Stars
I've had this movie on tape for as long as I can remember. I can understand why some reviewers think it's too scary for younger kids. The evil spirit is pretty scary, so young kids might be a little freaked out. I was about four or so when I first saw this. Being a Care Bear fanatic since birth, I had no problems with it.
I give the movie five stars, but I give the DVD itself three. I was very disappointed in the bonus feature, "Care Bears Battle the Freeze Machine." Not many people know this about "Freeze Machine," but it was a half hour TV special in 1984, which the PTE (Powers That Be) butchered it to turn it into an episode of the Care Bears Family TV series. Why do I say they butchered it? The original begining credits were cut out, and the original credits were one of the cutest Care Bear songs in history: Hugs and Tugs' duet, "I Wanna Be a Care Bear" (which is actually the theme to the DIC Care Bears series, but I digress). I grew up with the uncut "Freeze Machine" and I was pretty ticked off when I found it edited.
But other than that, this is one of my all time favorite movies. If you are a Care Bear fanatic, you'll love it. My advice to those who have young children, use your best judgement. See if you can rent this movie, watch it first, talk to your kids about it (such as the evil spriit) and let your child decide for him/herself if he/she wants to watch.
Movie Review: Care bears are great! Summary: 4 Stars
I have heard that this is way too scary for kids. I watched it when I was a kid, and I really don't think so. I have a feeling people are sheltering their kids more these days than they did in the past. Even so, I thought it was a great movie then, and it's a great movie still today. Amazon claims it's a vapid attempt at hiding a commercial for the new Care Bear Cousins.. but I thought meeting the Cousins one by one was the best part! I have seen this film a million times. I have younger sisters, but I bought it for MYSELF. :P
Movie Review: Made for commercial use, but teaches lessons Summary: 4 Stars
I totally agree that Amazon's review is VERY sarcastic! It's not right to degrade the movie that teaches children lessons in caring, sharing, and friendship. I watched this as a young child and remember my parents taping it for us to watch. Sure, the animation may be a little sketchy, but who doesn't love the Care Bears? They teach you lessons on friendship and that caring is not something to be forgotten. I loved the care bears and the cousins and wouldn't trade them for the world!
