Movie Reviews of The Cadfael CollectionMovie Review: The Cadfael Collection Summary: 5 Stars
I've always enjoyed English mysteries, for their quality and suspense, unlike American mysteries where the ending is almost always known at the beginning or easily figured out. When I first watched Cadfael I was not disappointed, the shows I watched were of excellent quality, from the actors through too the attention to detail. When the collection was offered it gave me the opportunity to catch the ones I missed. Anyone who enjoys British mysteries and haven't had the chance to experience Cadfael I would heartily recommend them getting the collection. You won't be disappointed.
Movie Review: Cadfael Mysteries- Classic Mysteries Summary: 5 Stars
I loved this series so having the complete collection of 13 shows is wonderful. Derek Jacobi is the definitive Cadfael, I could never imagine another. The production values are excellent with the look and feel of the 13th century. The stories will hold you interest. The music is perfect and the featured actors are great. I personally liked Sean Pertwee as Hugh Berringer in Series 1. The extras are interesting but Jacobi is only on as an audio. They could have done more with extras.
This is a great series that an mystery buff will watch over and over.
Movie Review: The Cadfael Collection Summary: 5 Stars
These are just beautifully done mysteries. Derek Jacobi plays Cadfael, a
Benedictine monk in England and Wales in the 12th century. Alot of great
guest stars and the murder mysteries themselves are cleverly done. Crime
detection done without modern science, but with observation and knowledge
of herbs, poisons and human nature. The scenery is great, the acting is
superb. I highly recommend these stories, all 75 minutes in length. A
great adaption of the original Ellis Peters books.
Movie Review: Cadfael Mysteries are A#1 Summary: 5 Stars
I am buying this collection for my wife for Christmas, as it was the only thing she asked for. She became a fan way back when this series first aired on PBS and finally got me hooked with all her ravings about how wonderful the stories were and how great a job they did shooting the locale of this Abbey. I dare not leave out the superb acting. Derek Jacobi truly brings this monk to life as no one else could.
Any rating less than 5 Stars on The Cadfael Series tells you those people just don't get it.
Movie Review: Best of the PBS Mystery Series Summary: 5 Stars
I loved these mysteries when they first appeared on PBS, and wore out my VHS editions. I am very pleased to own them on DVD. I have two minor complaints. First, there are no DVD extras. For more information on the series you have to go to the PBS Mystery Companion book. My other complaint is that there are seven books left in the series we shall never see in movie format. Having said that, I am grateful that I can play these episodes over and over again.
