Movie Reviews of The BubbleMovie Review: Bad Endings Summary: 3 Stars
I absolutely HATED how this movie turned out. If the intention was to make a statement about the abject hopelessness of the Israeli/Palestinian situation then I think that they should have made different movie entirely.
For most of the movie, I was glued to the set and didn't want to miss a single bit of the story. The characters were fairly well developed and interesting. The plot was not rushed but it did not drag. One gained important insights into a section of Israeli life (the younger, liberal-oriented part, that is) although not so much on the Palistinean side. Although I am sure that there are stark differences in attitudes toward homosexuality in both countries, one never saw how the Palistinean operated among, say, a circle of friends -- everything was confined to his familly relationships.
But an otherwise good movie was ruined by an unnecessarily morose and implausible ending. So much more could have been done to explore the human and sexual sides of the characters, possibly arriving at a more optimistic conclusion even in the face of painful realities.
