Movie Reviews of The Brothers GrimmMovie Review: Highly Entertaining. 72 out of 100. Summary: 5 Stars
I didn't know what to expect with this movie. I had never heard of it when it hit theatres, and found it on Pay Per View. I read the reviews here, and gave it a shot.
A good movie, and very immersive and entertaining. There was minimal gore, and even less "bad acting" as some have said in their reviews. It is fantasy - immersive fantasy - and accomplishes what it should: to take us away to another world where we can get lost.
I got lost, and you will too! I would love a sequel.

Movie Review: What Evil Lurks Behind The Facade Of A Fairytale? Summary: 5 Stars
Join the brothers Grimm, Wilhelm (Matt Damon) and Jacob (Heath Ledger) as they travel through rural 18th century Europe preying on the fears and superstitions of the local villages they encounter. Masquerading as ghost chasers and exorcists Jacob collects the local tales and legends in a large book.
However the two enterprising brothers finally stumble upon an actual case of evil enchantment and need all the help they can get to defeat the supernatural enemy if they hope to survive.
Fine direction by Terry Gilliam, beautifully done cinematography, clever storyline that incoporates almost every Grimm fairytale you've ever heard and a wonderful cast including both knowns and unknowns to the American audience. Including Monica Bellucci as the wicked Mirror Queen and the lovely Lena Headey as Angelika.
Lots of fun and excitement for the whole family. Well....maybe a little intense for the little ones.
Movie Review: Beautiful movie, fun to watch. Summary: 5 Stars
First off, I am a big fan of Grimm's fairy tales in general. I was curious as to how they would pull off a movie about it. I was surprised in a good way the way the screenwriter went about blending so many stories together. I also give extreme credit to director Terry Gilliam. He is the reason I wanted to see the movie in the first place. He has always had an incredible eye through the camera. I highly recommend anything he has done in the past.
The photography of the movie is spectacular, the colors and the settings made the movie feel like a true fairy tale. The music added to the setting, giving tension and comedy. The costumes were spectacular as well.
The only bad thing about the movie would be the two main characters. It took me a while to like them but I thought it was funny how they were truly not very brave, but they pulled through in the end somehow making them feel more realistic.
Movie Review: Gilliam Hits the Bull's Eye Summary: 5 Stars
What I was afraid was going to be an "18th Century Ghostbusters" wound up very different and very wonderful in the hands of Terry Gilliam, that ex-American absolute master of cinema. He even got a decent performance out of Matt Damon, which I didn't believe possible.
If you've followed Gilliam's career, you won't be disappointed by this one. It's not his best film (I'd let Fisher King and 12 Monkeys kick each other's arses for that distinction,) but it's as great as Munchausen, Time Bandits or Fear and Loathing.
If only more people understood Gilliam's films...then maybe some distributor would actually pick up Tideland and exhibit it. Tideland is complete, but rotting in the vault at the time I write this...
Movie Review: Good film, but not Gilliam's best Summary: 5 Stars
The Brother's Grimm ala Terry Gilliam. Im giving this 5 stars not because its Gilliam's best, but because I really enjoyed Ledger's and Belucci's performances. Gilliam is a real artist in his films, he likes to paint a colorful yet disturbing palette. Munchausen does the same, however, it was not as widely received as this one, which is why I think Grimm gets so much criticism. Some people either "get" Gilliam or they dont. Personally Damon's performance was lackluster, however, overall the story is a pastiche of old faerie tale legends, condensed into a hollywood-esque blockbuster movie. Had Gilliam gone more arthause and less hollywood, I suspect this film would have fared better.
