Movie Reviews of The Bridges at Toko-Ri

Movie Review: If your a fan of Wm.Holden you'll like this movie.
Summary: 4 Stars

Wm.Holden is great in the role of a pilot and on a mission to bomb bridges is shot down in enemy terretory . Mickey Rooney is very funny in his role as a helicopter flyer who rescue downed pilots at sea. The ending to the story is sad as they are fired upon by Korean soldier's and consequently both of them die.

Movie Review: Adult view of war and its stresses
Summary: 4 Stars

This is one if the best war movies I have seen with its realistic depiction of the fear and stress induced when men are asked to go the extra distance against great odds. But WHY is there not a DVD in wide screen format in which this was filmed?

Movie Review: Good movie, but the ending is not what is expected
Summary: 4 Stars

William Holden gave a good performance ,as he always did ,but the ending is not what is expected.i woul have liked to be the screenplay writer and aded a good ending.

Movie Review: An OK war flick and realistic look at a hard war.
Summary: 3 Stars

The Korean War was a hard war for those called to serve. That is about the gist of this average war film. The film stars William Holden, who puts forth his usual dependable performance as a competent iconoclast. With Grace Kelly playing the part of his wife, you bet he had better things to do than fight in Korea. Holden plays the role of a Naval aviator who had already served hard duty in WW2, now recalled to duty for a reprise in the Korean War. What with his law practice back home now interrupted, yanked away from his wife (Grace Kelly), you bet he has some attitude issues. This scenario happened in real life to a lot of Americans (except for the Grace Kelly part).

This is a fair film and keeps the viewer entertained. It is serviceable entertainment and reminds us of the service of many in a war that many Americans have nearly forgotten.

Movie Review: Ordered because it was recommended by Astronaut Niel Armstrong
Summary: 3 Stars

An avid reader, I recently read a book titled "FIrst Man - The Life of Neil A. Armstrong" an authorized biography by James R. Hansen. In it is an excerpt where astronaut Neil Armstrong is quoted as really liking the old movie "The Bridges over Toko-Ri"...so I ordered it from Amazon. It came promptly and I watched it right away, anxious to see it. The movie is simply an old war movie. It is very darkly lit so it was difficult to see well. It was the expected story line and was an "ok" movie. I'm not sure why it's a Neil Armstrong favorite other than it is a period movie about, perhaps, the time in history that most interests him. I'm not sure I would buy this movie again if I knew it was so poorly lit that it made it hard to see or enjoy.
