Movie Reviews of The Bridge at RemagenMovie Review: The evolution of great war pictures. Summary: 5 Stars
You can see the breakings of the old style war pictures the gee golly happy to be here fighting the war types. This is a great picture you can really believe the characters in the movie are real, their all tired and weary and want the war over, and don't want to die in its last days on either side. George Segal who is known best for his comedy plays a war weary company commander and does the role justice. The basis of the movie is that the germans are trying to get whats left of their devastated army across the Rhine , and the Americans are trying to secure a crossing to get into the heart of germany and end the war. There are alot of very realistic scenes, one that impressed upon me is the german civilians with all there worldy posessions trying to get across the remagen bridge while american b-25,s are bombing it to soften it up for the advancing ground troops. For a world war two picture wide in scope and believable buy this movie.
Movie Review: KRAUTS GUARDING THE BRIDGE FROM ANGLO YANK INVADERS Summary: 5 Stars
"Not one inch of our sacred soil is to be yielded to the enemy." Adolf Hitler's Command to his Generals. "The Bridge at Remagen must be destroyed."
What an awesome film this is. Bradford Dillman plays his role exceptinally well: " Keep shawwp.... you're the cuttin' edge!!!! I love that line of his. The best part of this film is when a small handfull of GIs try to sneak across the bridge and the German gunfire explodes and cuts everything to pieces. The sound of the bullets raking the wood with that shattering echo is brutal. The scenes where the American tanks are crushing through the city is great. There is so much action in this film adn lots of scenes where the Sherman Tanks are steamrolling across the land and blasting the enemy with heavy Artillery shells. This movie is a must for WWII movie fans.
Movie Review: Excellent movie Summary: 5 Stars
I have seen the movie and have been to the "Real" bridge in the town of Remagen, near Frankfurt, north of Weisbaden Germany. The movie, although interrupted during shooting, depicts the events as best it could. The acting was excellent and the set was picked for its striking ressemblance to the actual bridge. For those who have actually visited the real bridge and gone up inside the bridge towers, which is all that remains of the original bridge, to see actual pictures and read the plagues on the supporting walls, both inside and out, will agree that Hollywood was very close to the events that took place. A terrific movie worth owning and watching again and again.
Movie Review: DVD introduces a new generation to brilliant forgotten films Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this DVD whilst waiting at the checkout of K-mart in Australia, took it home, watched it, and was blown away. Why have so many of these big budget, expertly crafted, riveting war films of yesterday been ignored (except when plundered for manipulative sentimental tripe like "Saving Private Ryan")? We can be thankful the studios have realised that remastered and original aspect ratios are the way to go - I'd rather cough up a few extra bucks for some extras but the quality of the transfers are great. BTW you can get the non-edited remastered widescreen edition of "Cross of Iron" for $AUD7.99!!!
Movie Review: WWII action Summary: 5 Stars
This film may lack some histoy here and there but over all it is vary appealing. It opening is by far one of the best in WWII war movies (fast and to the point). It sets the tempo for the rest of the movie. I feel this was a lost move because of the time period it was released (the late 1960). With the large anti-war movement no doubt it was swept under the carpet. But the action is truly first rate. If you like tank and infantry battle this one has it for you. The sound is great on DVD and the color nice to.
