Movie Reviews of The Brave Little Toaster

Movie Review: The movie of my childhood
Summary: 5 Stars

The Brave Little Toaster will always have a special place in my favorite movies. I used to watch this movie all the time when I was younger. At one point, around the time I was 12, I felt like I was "too big" to watch the Brave Little Toaster. I was really full of it at that age. When I was 15 I watched it again as a nostalgia thing, and it really reminded me of how great it was.

The Brave Little Toaster is a little bit bizarre, but it's believable, and I think it's great for kids. When you're younger and you have a wild imagination, movies like the Brave Little toaster are great. I heard that some kids were scared by this movie. I wasn't scared by it when I was younger, but now that I'm older, I understand the message more clearly, and I understand why some people felt disturbed by it. The message is about being unwanted and having to make way for newer generations, but the message is also positive because it shows how sometimes older things are the most important.

There are a few scenes that may frighten some kids, like when the air conditioner blows up, and the toaster's famous clown dream. A scene that I find somewhat depressing today is a scene in the junkyard towards the end where cars are lowered onto a conveyer belt to be smashed, and are singing a song about their lives and what they will miss most. That's a pretty deep scene for a kids movie, and it's also one of the best musical sequences ever put into an animated movie.

The story is about 5 appliances who haven't been used in a long time and decide to set out on a journey to find their master. Along the way, they encounter many troubles, which make for a great story.

The simple animation gives this movie a certain feel that not many cartoons have. The music sequences are excellent, and not cheesy like many other cartoons, and for a kids movie, Brave Little Toaster is wonderfully twisted. Don't let that turn you off, because it's a great children's movie.

I highly recommend this movie for kids, but parents may want to view it first to make sure they won't get too scared by certain scenes. I also recommend this to anyone who likes a good animated film.

Movie Review: This Should Be Considered A Classic Kids' Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Firstly, the movie itself gets 5 stars, no questions asked - I will agree that the print could be better, but I also wonder how many 4 or 5 year olds will notice that fact, or care. I also (See, reviewers do read other reviewers' opinions!) agree that the sequels didn't quite live up to the original, but sequels seldom do...and I agree that there are some scary parts, or - to a 3 year old - even 'sad' parts, such as when Toaster gets pretty banged up as he rescues all of the other appliances, etc. But all of these thoughts and points cannot take away from the fact that this is a clever, cute little movie that I recommend highly to anybody who asks me about it when they see it on our shelf. The plot is discussed in great detail in many of the other reviews, and so I will just add my personal opinion to this list, as a mom. I should mention that my son is autistic and mentally disabled, by the way, and so I have to be very, very careful with what I buy, so that he will not be unnecessarily upset, frightened, etc., and he has done more than fine with TBLT and its' sequels. Perhaps it is an autistic individual's tendency to see things in an unusual way that he never thought the plot - a toaster for the hero, and a bunch of talking appliances? - silly or too offbeat. And I will admit to sitting down and watching it with him and friends' kids, and never once looking at my watch or thinking, "Oh, god, not again." That says something when you consider there have been Disney movies (uh,'Chicken Little') when I seriously hoped that I would choke on my popcorn, if it would get me out of that movie theatre sooner than later. Cute movie, and for adults, the late, great Phil Hartman does Jack Nicholson as an air-conditioner, and it's hilarious. I hope that my few thoughts on this little gem have been of some help, and I really hope that TBLT continues to find new fans. =)

Movie Review: Nothing hits the spot like a BLT (Brave Little Toaster)
Summary: 5 Stars

I can not give this movie any less than 5 stars. When I was a child, I remember sitting with my sister and loving this movie. I bought it for myself when a bunch of people I live with were trying to tell me that the movie was not as scary as I remembered.

So we watched it again. All of those "Scary" scenes were still there (like the toaster having a dream he is about to be dropped in a bathtub, etc.) and so, I agree that it is a little bit intense at some points.

I also agree with some of the reviewers that the movie uses some terms that are not as accepted today- for example, the movie appliences call each other stupid from time to time. I also noticed that the beginning of the movie does "rock" a little bit and is not the greatest in quality.

But I do think it is very good to enjoy if this was a favorite movie of yours when you were a kid. I don't want to get into a debate about what is healthy for children to watch or what types of nightmares or language they will learn. I am simply rating this movie at 5 stars because I wanted to buy this movie and it was better than what I thought I was getting (I worried that once Disney bought the rights to this movie, the movie would have added songs or Disney might take some scenes out). This is not the case. If you are really concerned about buying this for you children then don't buy it for them... but be prepared to have children who become scared of twinkies, foam pillows, and static on the radio, because- in my opinion, you can't protect your child from everything. Oops, now I got into a debate.

I hope this review was helpful for you!

Movie Review: Spectacular - an Animated Movie with Real Heart
Summary: 5 Stars

Full of spirit and character, the Brave Little Toaster is one of my favourite animated movies of all time. The rightful winner of the 1988 Parents' Choice Award, it has stood the test of time remarkably well. This is a moving story about loyalty and friendship through hardships, and I can recommend it without blinking.

Five dated appliances in an old summer house finally get enough of waiting for their master to come back, and decide to go to the city to find him. While the big world is not a very inviting place for them, they're determined to find him at all cost. A very moving story, told with real heart. The characters are wonderful - the toaster is the leader, feeling responsible for the group. The radio likes to keep jabbering away, much to the annoyance of the lamp. The electric blanket - sort of the little kid of the group - is perhaps most eager to find the "Master". Then we have my favourite, Kirby the vacuum cleaner. He is tough and grumpy, but he has a soft side which he unsuccessfully tries to hide. These five characters captivate me and they are done good justice by animators who clearly did their homework.

The music of this movie is wonderful as well. The four musical numbers are all very memorable - the optimistic"City of Light", the dramatic "B-Movie", the futuristic "Cutting Edge" and the melancholically beautiful "Worthless". All wonderful. Exciting, scary but above all moving and captivating, the Brave Little Toaster is one of those truly deserved classics. I love it, always have and I'm sure I always will.

Movie Review: This movie is freaky as frick.
Summary: 5 Stars

I totally can't imagine watching this movie as a little kid; I think it'd freak me out. That fireman clown is terrifying, and the air conditioner is pretty freaky too. Plus, the acting's pretty miserable, as are the songs, and the plot, which consists of a whole bunch of non-sequitur scenes.

But that said, watching this in my twenties with a bunch of friends is a lot of fun. Many, many parts of the move are so blatantly awkward and awful that's it was great to watch "Mystery Science Theater 3000" style, making fun of the movie as we watched.

A few favorite things from the movie:

-"What are you going to do; suck me to death?"

-The Chester-the-Molester-esque air conditioner

-Trying to come up with a drinking game for every time someone says "Master," or every time someone makes a bad pun

-A whole bunch of cars singing a country song as they're about to get crushed to death

I've never tripped on any sort of drug before, but I imagine doing so while trying to create a movie would result in something a lot like this film. Not recommended for kids, but definitely recommended for the young at heart.
