i liked the movie "Boys of St. Vincents" quite a bit. it wasn't exactly what i thought it would be, but it is a good movie, and i would recommend it to my friends.Movie Review: Mediocre Production

It's hard to make a good true crime story, either the facts get in the way of the drama, or the drama gets in the way of the facts. Henry Czerny does a good job, and for a brief time in the early 1990s this TV production seemed a sure bet to catapult him into the ranks of recognizable and international film stardom (in the super-villain category), however moviegoers quickly tired of him and he never found a part with as much scary creepiness as playing Brother Lavin, the scourge of Mount Cashel.
I don't know, maybe if I was from Canada I'd give this another star. Director John N. Smith gets all the colorless drip of the orphanage right, but it looks doubly bleak if you're not from that part of the world. Meanwhile time passes and the boys who Lavin abused grow up and decide to deek a bit of revenge a la the US movie SLEEPERS with Brad Pitt. The second half of the movie isn't as chilling as the first one, but it provides a lot of satisfaction as justice is served--sort of. But in a crime such as child abuse, does the circle ever close up entirely and heal over? That, my friends, is still very much up in the air. The DVD offers nothing spectacular and in that way it suits the atmosphere of the original telefilm to a "T." Maybe it would be good to show this to children so that they would know if someone was molesting them and they could report the abuse to the police or to their guardians.
Movie Review: POWERFUL, EMOTIONAL....

After just having viewed the VHS version of this film, I felt compelled to come back to this site and re-read the reviews posted by customers. Overall, I must say that I agree with the majority (particularly the praise for Henry Czerny, who portrays Brother Lavin) of positive recognition. The main things I had a slight problem with, however, were that I felt there were several important unaswered questions and was left wondering if I had missed a 3rd tape. By far, tape 1 of this 2 tape set was the more powerful & emotional of the 2. Overall, a great movie for those who like true life drama (this is loosely based on actual events) but be forewarned: there are several scenes with (in my opinion) complete unnecessary child nudity. There, to me, was no need for the lingering shots of the young male backsides in the shower and it left me with more than a little bit of uncomfortable feelings and I question the need for those clips.
Excellent acting, great production value, great direction.
Movie Review: WHAT A MOVIE

one of the most powerful and disturbing movies i have ever seen. thank god for the canadians. i doubt this could have been made in america. but it was disturbing. i grew to literally hate some of the people in thia movie and had to shake off what i felt when they found it was time to pay the piper. this should be required watching for all straight people. maybe then they would figure out that pediphiles are not gay. there is a vast difference between gay males and pedophiles. anyway, i can not recommend this movie strongly enough. the acting and the group of people who directed and produced this movie were very brave in doing so. this is a taboo subject in the u.s. once again, thanks to the canadians and the european's who DO make this type of movie.
