Movie Reviews of The Boys in Company CMovie Review: awesome Summary: 5 Stars
This has to be one of the favroite marine corps movies of all time......
Movie Review: COMING OF AGE SAGA IS FINALLY OUT! Summary: 4 Stars
This Sidney J. Furie directed story is finally here on DVD. An ensemble piece telling the tale of young marines going to Viet Nam. Look for an early glimpse of R. Lee Ermey as a D.I. in the boot camp scenes. He is great because he was a decorated marine and drill instructor. His acting here paved the way for Full Metal Jacket, and instant fame.
The movie focuses on a street wise Chicago kid (Stan Shaw), a naive country guy (Andrew Stevens), and a long haired draft dodger (Craig Wasson). Other actors are thrown into the mix but I can't remember there names anymore. The film was out of print for so long. James Whitmore, Jr. is great as a platoon leader for them. He is a mustang officer and steers them through the jagged path of the Viet Nam war. Their company commander is a by the book, regulation type, which only spells trouble for the guys while learning about jungle combat. After losing guys in combat, and too many close calls, the captain sees a way out for his men-play sports and allow the ARVN to shine in soccer games. The young marines learn the game of soccer and get a break from the war. The dilema is they have to lose games or it's back to combat duty.
With the release of The Boys in Company C, will Purple Hearts be close behind? This was another Sidney J. Furie Viet Nam war movie about a Navy surgeon who falls in love with a nurse.
Movie Review: One of the best war movies ever made Summary: 4 Stars
This has to be on the list of best war movies ever made. Anyone who has ever spent any time in the service will appreciate the way in which attitudes and reactions to scenarios that you will only truly experience in the military are captured.
One of my favorite scenes is where two of the guys get sent up a hill to call in artillery on a suspected enemy target. When they get up to the top of the hill, there is nothing there and they realize that they are going to call artillery in on top of themselves to destroy - nothing! So one of them says, "you see over on that hilltop over there?" - The other guy says that he doesn't see anything, so the first one says, "You must be blind! I see a whole battalion of NVA troops over there! You ever wonder what it feels like to spend a million dollars?" - They proceed to call in an airstrike on the other unpopulated hilltop, while they sit back and watch.
Movie Review: I'am so glad i found this through Amazon.com Summary: 4 Stars
I have been searching all over for this movie in the stores, but never found it. I pretty much gave up finding it. Little did I know that Amazon would have it. I thought it was just for books. Ok back to the movie. I saw it a long time ago on HBO, and I really enjoyed it. Stan Shaw was great as the brooding brother who doesn't care about anyone. The supporting cast were a bunch of guys who some say are misfits, but I don't think so. They were a group of people who got drafted, or enlisted in war time. Young guys who had to grow up pretty fast, and they learned the hard way lessons about life, friendship, leadership, war, and death.
Movie Review: Great post Vietnam Movie Summary: 4 Stars
DVD came in on time, no damage. Good movie; to me it is the forerunner of Full Metal Jacket. Lee Ermie is very young in this, but I remembered him originally from this movie where he expanded on his drill sergeant role in Full Metal Jacket. Overall if you're into post Vietnam or War movies, it's a good one to have.
