Movie Reviews of The Boys in Company CMovie Review: henstooth version not to bad at all... Summary: 5 Stars
This is a dvd review for the new version by Henstooth home video..The widescreen version is pretty good considering the source material..
The film looks better than the 3 versions I've had..One was a version off AMC , The other a full screen version that looked like a transfer from a laserdisc put out full screen from Columbia many years ago. And last but not least a pal version from I believe Portugal "los chicos de compangna C". The portugese release was by far the best till this one came along from Henstooth..
I wish it offered an enhanced 16x9 option along with the 2:35 to 1 widescreen but you can't have your cake and eat it too.
Overall image quality is better than I expected and audio is 2 channel
The extras aren't bad and the commentary by Andrew Stevens is ok..
I say if your looking for this title chances are very good you'll enjoy this transfer as it's the best I've found..I don't think it will get better unless it comes out cleaned up on blu-ray. Fat chance.. so enjoy
Movie Review: Simply a great film, R Lee does it again Summary: 5 Stars
Though this film is not yet available on DVD, I do own a copy on video and I can't wait to sse this on DVD. This film has some excellent performances, but it's also the story line that really keeps it moving along. Having been in Army, I know the feeling of what it's like to being new to the military way of life. Stan Shaw as the lone wolf does a great job of going from being all for himslef to taking care of his men. His acting along side of R Lee Emry makes the film worth seeing and purchasing. R Lee sees in Stan what a real leader is and someone who will not leave his men. The sene in which he and Stan are talking about the replacements and R Lee says to Stan that he has one "#$%^^ of a job", is a wondeful piece of acting. You see that Marines are not robots, but have feelings as well.
So make sure this one is in your collection.
Movie Review: It's about time you can get this on dvd!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Wow, I looked for this everywhere! Asked for it in every store and no one had it when it was just finally released on dvd! Finally broke down and ordered it on Amazon to finally get my hands on a copy! This used to be in my video cassette collection but I bought it used and quite frankly, it is wore out after the many more viewings I got out of it! So, at last my copy arrives in the mail and I view it after not seeing it for about fifteen years. It's still one of the funniest vietnam movies I have ever seen! If you're a fan of Heavy Metal Jacket, I highly recommand this and just remember, it came first! I'm writing this review in hopes of more people will see this hidden treasure! I highly recommand buying this for your collection while it is available!
Movie Review: Memories of years past and lost. Summary: 5 Stars
A great piece for its time. The 'Boys in Company C'is a classic and underrated. This movie is a character study of a ficticious platoon in the U.S. Armed Forces who are sent on a number of missions dealing with the consequences of war. The boys travel from boot camp to the fields of Cambodia to play soccer and fight in a horrific war. The platoon is caught in a senseless out of control juggernaut that drags them through all aspects of a situation that thrusts them through the channels of Government and a military bureaucracy in a mindless quest. Part black comedy and mostly drama, this movie can hold you from start to finish. For this genre, this movie is definetly one to own a copy of. A permanent addition to any library. Timeless.
Movie Review: Fun movie to watch. Silly, but fun!! Summary: 5 Stars
Having seen this movie when it came out in theater's, and only a couple of times since, I had forgotten how fun a movie this one is to watch. I believe this was R. Lee Ermey's first war flick, and we can see why he has done others, such as Full Metal Jacket. He's the star of this film, he's the one you'll remember. In my opinion, the movie could have been a whole boot camp flick and that's it. Although the plot is really silly, the soccer game issue, it makes you think "Is this how some things really work in the military and government?" The answer, is yes, in some ways they do.
Don't take this flick seriously, just watch it to enjoy it, have a few laughs, and if you're a former Jarhead, you'll appreciate it.
