Movie Reviews of The Blind SideMovie Review: Sandra's Powerhouse Triumph! Summary: 5 Stars
"The Blind Side" is a wonderful, unforgettable masterpiece that's destined to become a perennial holiday classic.
Everyone in your family--from youngsters to the older--should be enthralled with this magical movie experience brought to us by John Hancock.
As writer and director, Hancock has gathered together a once-in-a-lifetime cast who enwrap you in a family so real that you feel like a member. Based on real life, the Tuohys of Tennessee find and nurture a homeless young black youth, Micahel Oher. They eventually adopt him and consider him a full-fledged member of their Christian family. They're also responsible for his becoming a multi-million dollar football star at Ole Miss.
That's the heart of this story that will have you laughing one minute, and trying to choke back your tears the next.
As the pistol packing, brassy Mother Lion, Leanne Tuohy, Sandra Bullock absolutely electrifies, giving the performance of a lifetime. Her Academy Award performance puts her firmly in the pantheon of movie greats. Like her legendary predecessors, Bette Davis and Vivien Leigh, Bullock has the magical spark that connects directly with the viewer and when she confronts a gang of thugs who threaten her newly adopted black son, Michael Oher, the hair on the back of your head tingles when Bullock gets right in their faces and spits": "You threaten my son, you threaten me!" Looking fabulous with her new blonde do, wearing knock-out fashions and exuding electrifying charisma, Bullock brings us an unforgetabble heroine to love forever.
Most of us can barely remember those actresses who've recently snared the Best Actress honor (quick, who was that French actress who won last year for "La Vie En Rose") Sandra Bullock, however gives us a fiery, fabulous heroine that we'll be discussing and thinking about for years to come.
This is hardly to say that Bullock is the only one who did great. Hancock's entire cast--from the extras in the background, the school faculty, the athletes, the young performers in Michael's welfare housing projects--were all extraorinary.
The Tuohy family became like people you'd love to have as neighbors: Tim McGraw is the handsome, genial head of the Touhy family and owns a chain of Taco Bell restaurants that make him a multi-millionaire. His two children played briilliantly by Lily Collins and the scene-stealing, impish Jae Head, enhanced this story-book family.
The Blind Side should have won the Oscar for Best Picture but many of the big city movie critics hated it. New York Magazine was especally notorious for its steady stream of sarcastic observations about Sandra Bullock and the movie itself. Maybe it's staggering box office ($255 million domestically as of 3/14/2010) was a deterrant. Numerous other critics were aghast that Sandra Bullock was actually winning awards for her role over Meryl Streep.
Bullock proves herself to be Hollywood's greatest star. She's a brillant commedienne (i.e, The Proposal, Miss Congenialty) and now with The Blind Side, a brillant dramatic actress. She's going to be around for a long, long time and now her millions of fans are wondering what her next triumph will be?
Summary of The Blind SideMichael Oher (Quinton Aaron) knows little about family. Less about football. What the homeless teen knows are the streets and projects of Memphis. Well-to-do Leigh Anne Tuohy (Sandra Bullock) knows little about his world. Yet when she and Michael meet, he's found a home. And the Tuohys have found something just as life-changing: a beloved new son and brother. This real-life story of family and of Michael's growth into a blue-chip football star will have you cheering with its mix of gridiron action and heartwarming emotion. Share the remarkable journey of the college All-American and first-round NFL draft pick who was a winner before he ever stepped onto the playing field.
