Movie Reviews of The Big Hit

Movie Review: The Big Hit a Big Laugh!
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved this movie the first time I watched it some years back and promised myself I'd see it again because apparently it was the LAST time I ever saw it on broadcast television, it was so long ago I can't even remember what channel broadcast it was; but I saw it and thought to myself "I love this movie." And always have up till the day I got it because now I can watch it over, and over, and over again and it still cracks me up everytime. With that aside and Mark Wahlberg being one of my most favorite male actors-- this movie was topnotch in the very element it was supposed to be, a hard-hitting action movie with some right down comedy. It's not a movie to be taken seriously, but not a movie to let you down either of its mockery-- top notch acting and reasons why Mark Wahlberg, as an action star actor can do comedy, unlike Densel Washington who's even asked Jay Leno on his show why he couldn't do comedy, the response was because Densel was just too serious to be taken lightly. Here though, whether this wasn't a role Mark fit ideally to some peeople's benefit of his other marks; I still think it was one hell of a role for him that he did EXTREMELY well as the soft-spoken hitmen who could do everything right but has the incredible turn of luck to always get the crap end of the stick at times.

Good movie.

Good laughs.

Good times.

Even my fiancee enjoyed it and she'd never seen the movie up till I showed her some days ago! Good quality movie worth its time and laughter appeal.

Movie Review: Hong Kong Action meets Sitcom Comedy.
Summary: 5 Stars

"The Big Hit" is a film that seems to be becoming more Well-known and Popular by the Day. On it's Theatrical release, it was little hyped and it Disappeared without a trace, (that was it's fate in Australia, at least) but, like some other Greats including "Austin Powers - International Man of Mystery" and "Happy Gilmore", This film has developed a Huge Following on Video. And Deservedly So, as it is One-Hella-va Fun Flick that keeps getting better with Every Viewing.

The Action Scenes are Wonderfully Choreographed and the Comedy Scenes Perfectly Timed. Everything in the film is done in the name of Fun.

Mark Wahlberg's Character Melvin Smillie is a True Original. He is a Contract Killer with Morals, The Lengths he will go to please people is Astounding. He Truly Hates it when Someone doesn't Like him. Wahlberg's softly spoken acting style is Perfect for this role, he also brings a lot of Muscle and Attitude to the Character which makes it all the better.

Lou Diamond Phillips has his Best role in Years as another Contract Killer, but without the Morals, and Bokeem Woodbine is very Likeable as yet Another Contract Killer. Elliot Gould and Christina Applegate give Great Comedic Performances as a Father and Daughter who Complicate Melvin's life, as does Lela Rochon, who's funny in a more Evil way.

Lots of Action, Lots of Laughs, and a Dash of Romance. "The Big Hit" has it all.

Movie Review: Very amusing and very action-packed!
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie was a real blast, both with the action and more so with the sometimes childish but often funny spoof element! Mark Wahlberg plays Mervin Smiley, a sexually insecure potential hitman who works for godfather Avery Brooks(Sisco from Deep Space Nine to you Trekkies!), along with assorted colleagues. When Smiley finds he is several thousand in debt due to women messing him around for his money and failed hits, he decides to kidnap a Japanese girl, the daughter of an industrialist on the verge of hara-kiri after his movie flops! It just so happens that this girl is the god-daughter of his boss. As if that wasn't enough, his copy of the video KING KONG LIVES is overdue! Oh dear . . . The results are fast, frenetic and hilarious. Elliot Gould appears as the on-the-wagon father of another potential fiancee(Christina Applegate, who is a real hottie). And when his bosses learn of his unauthorised kidnapping, the fun bursts into stylised action with gunfights and explosions galore! John Woo produced this, and it shows well! This has something for Hong Kong action fans, something for teenage airhead humour freaks and a little bit of girl power for chick-flick lovers. Everyone will enjoy this, in other words!

Movie Review: Why does everything have to be so serious?!?
Summary: 5 Stars

I wasn't going to add a review to this site, but after seeing all the negative reviews I had to. This is one of my favourite films, because it's enjoyable. Sure, there are funnier movies, movies with more action, better acting, a better plot and all the other things that people like. But this film is good at what it does, and that is bringing everything together. Rather than being the best film at one of these categories, it is good at all of them. And it's FUN!! Lou Diamond Phillips kicks arse in this movie... and there are some killer lines in there too ("Bust some caps?!? Give this man a gold star!!"). The soundtrack works well, the camera work is top notch, and all around this is very well produced. It seems there are a lot of people out there that think a film can only be good if it has a message, or Harrison Ford. Well here's an idea- get out there and make a movie yourself... let's see what kind of message you can offer the world. In the meantime, respect this film for what it is- extreme entertainment. And for that guy who said that all the people that hate this film are from Australia, I'm an Aussie.

Movie Review: KNUCKLE UP!
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is my all-time favorite. If you do get it, be prepared to either love it or hate it with a vengence, because that is usually what happens after someone sees "the big hit". The people who didn't like this movie (many were from Australia for some reason)say they don't like the violance in it for being too graphic. If, however, you understand that movie violance does not actually happen in real life, and no one actually dies, you should like this movie. Once you have that concept mastered, sit back for a hilarious and exiting movie. When you do, remember that the fight scenes and stuff are not suppossed to be realistic, just cool, so thats why they are heavily cheorographed. Also, the features rock in this movie, with interactive menu and director and screenwriter audio commentary. Plus, Lou Diomond Phillips is absoultly great in this.

One last thing. THIS MOVIE IS A SPOOF, DONT START WHINING ABOUT THINGS THAT MAYBE COULDN'T HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE!
