Movie Reviews of The Big Blue (Director's Cut)Movie Review: Dreamy and unforgettable Summary: 5 Stars
"The Big Blue" is a mini-epic that provides a sensational visual treat via its wonderful cinematography. The film follows the relationship between two childhood friends - one French, the other Italian - who grow up to become rivals in the world of free-diving. Jean-Marc Barr, as the young Frenchman, is astonishing. His character is palpably uncomfortable in our world above water - his dream is to become one with the sea. Jean Reno is both amusing and touching as his super-macho Italian friend who is determined to be the best, or die trying. Add a bubbly Rosanna Arquette to the mix as an American reporter who falls hard for the young Frenchman. Their final scenes together are both heartbreaking and transcendental. This is the type of film capable of stirring up your emotions in more ways than one; you will marvel, you will laugh, and you will cry.
Movie Review: luc besson-director Summary: 5 Stars
Luc besson is one of the best directors in the film business today. He has given us some of the best action films aswell as introducing us to the excellent actor'Jean Reno'. His action sequences are second to none. We can give examples of these, Niketa(french) is a non stop action film from start to finish with some of the best camera work you are ever likely to see. He has also written the majority of the films he directs so we know he can tell the story with his vision and flare. He gave us the excellent Leon with jean reno, Gary oldman. As you will see from the film he has given gary oldman an excellent and powerful part to play, a piece that will stay with you long after the film has finised. Movie Review: This movie is something special. Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the video version when released in U.S many years ago. I saw this movie on the big screen back in 1988 or 89 and was just consumed by the story and the photography and musical score. I cant wait to see the DVD directors cut, Ive been waiting for 12 years now, I KNOW IT WILL BE GOOD!!!
Well I purchased the DVD and have been disappointed, yes...The musical score that is included in the United States is not the same as in Europe. The U.S. score is much better imo and better fits the stories emotional scences. This directors cut is the european version...the movie itself was nice to see and the additional minutes enlightened me on some questions i had of the characters...now if they would just put the U.S. release soundtrack it would be a winner all the way around......
Movie Review: so lucky to have seen this... Summary: 5 Stars
I stumbled across this movie at the age of 18 in 1990, when living in Europe. I couldn't believe it and didn't know who to love harder, Enzo or Jacques. It had such a profound effect on me, I then went on to read everything I could get my hands on about Jacques Costeau. After seeing the movie on TV I went straight to the video store and got out the film, and to my dismay it was a 2 hr and heavily edited movie. I cried to the video store person who had never heard of an extended version. Several months later I found a copy in a tiny video store in Ireland. I bought it on the spot. It has remained my favourite movie of all time, right up there with Cinema Paradiso, My Life as a Dog, Blade Runner and Taxi Driver.
I still take baths like Jacques uncle. It seems a nicer way to do it.
Movie Review: The Big Blue is a romantic adventure FULL of passion Summary: 5 Stars
I first saw this movie in the theaters in France in 1988. It is such a moving, passionate story of a man, lonely and yet so full of passion for the sea. Jean Marc Barr is so cute and his quiet nature and gentle spirit are so attractive. The French generally provide a lot of insight to the personalities of their characters, and in this movie, you really become involved in each person's feelings and predicaments. It is an awesome movie that "takes you in" and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves LOVE and the complications therein! I am so excited it is coming out in the theaters again on July 14, 2000! Go and see it, then BUY the memory! I am so glad it has finally come out in DVD as I'll be able to see it in French and English! Enjoy - you really will!
