Movie Reviews of The Best of Riverdance

Movie Review: The Best of Riverdance
Summary: 3 Stars

I gave as a gift. The receiver said they enjoyed it. I purchased it at their request.

Movie Review: Riverdance
Summary: 3 Stars

Not as good as the original and the soundtrack could have used better mixing

Movie Review: Terrible editing and flat, pointless filler
Summary: 2 Stars

Yes, there's the amazing step dancing of Riverdance here, and as always it's magical. Be aware that there's an equal amount of time given to musical numbers, which may not be for everyone. Some of it is very lovely, but they really should split this into two discs, one for dancing and one for musical performances. I always find myself skipping over the music to get to the dances. As for the dance pieces themselves, whoever made the terrible, terrible, terrible (I really think it required saying it three times) uninspired decision to splice together 3 different shows into most of the dances is just a complete idiot. Imagine watching Invasion of the Body Snatchers with the film switching randomly between the 4 or 5 versions that have been made - it's just.. terrible. They clearly have the complete footage for all of the shows, and we all know how much video can fit on a single DVD - why not simply include all 3 performances for each number on the disc? Foolish, and really jarring when you're trying to sit back and enjoy the performances.

Then there's the flat, woodenly delivered filler between each setup that could easily have been accomplished with titles. Boring and a waste of time.

This was a free disc for me and I'm debating just tossing it and hoping for a properly put together bluray. I don't think it's worth the space it would take up on my shelf.

Movie Review: Disappointing
Summary: 2 Stars

I agree with one reviewer who says this is a documentary, but I don't agree that it's worth the money you'll spend on it. I bought it because my three-year olds love to watch Irish dancing, but there was so much talking and singing that we all grew bored and turned it off. I never got to the part about Flatley's ego. The only advantage to the spliced dance numbers is that you get to see how ridiculous Flatley looks with his shirt open to his navel, as compared to the other male leads. Overall, don't bother with this unless you have everything else made by Riverdance and you need that one CD more.

Movie Review: Not True Celtic
Summary: 2 Stars

PASS ON THIS ONE. THE ORIGINAL WAS OK, BUT IF YOU WANT GREAT MUSIC, GREAT DANCING, AWESOME SETS, TRULY CELTIC--EVEN WITH THE HUGE EGO OF MICHAEL FLATLEY, WHO IS, BY THE WAY AN EXTRAORDINARY TALENT, BUY HIS SHOW "FEET OF FLAMES" TOTALLY TOE-TAPPING AWESOME. THIS WILL BE NO DISAPPOINTMENT LIKE THE SO CALLED "BEST OF RIVERDANCE" IT HAS NO SPANISH DANCE, NO SPIRITUALS, NO HIP-HOP, NO RUSSIAN DANCE. ALL WELL AND GOOD FOR MANY. BUT FEET OF FLAMES IS TOTALLY IRISH & CELTIC, WHICHEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT. EMMA KILLINGBECK SCOTS&IRISH TO THE CORE
