Movie Reviews of The BeastMovie Review: Soviets in Afghanistan Summary: 5 Stars
An awesome movie! I originally rented a VHS of this film and it took me forever to find a copy of it on DVD.
A tank, commanded by a Soviet NCO who fought in Stalingrad and was known as "tank boy," finds itself isolated and very much alone and under attack by a band of mujideen whose village was destroyed by the unit this tank belonged to. The tank, known as "the Beast" to the Afghans, is technologically very formidable (by Soviet standards) but circumstances begin to turn the tables on the Soviet crew, giving the mooj the upper hand.
An excellent film!
Movie Review: One if the best war movies Summary: 5 Stars
I've watched this movie dozens of times (recorded from cable) but could never find it on VHS; a friend of mine was actually able to find it on ebay for 20 bucks. I just now found out it was released on DVD LAST YEAR! I'm glad it is finally on DVD and I hope more people will have the opportunity to see this movie. It is an excellent, well-acted film. No matter what your political views are, I think this film makes you realize that neither side in a war wins; maybe one side just loses less...I don't know and I don't pretend to, but this movie really makes me feel as if I did.
Movie Review: it took me nine years to find this movie Summary: 5 Stars
before i bought this movie ive seen this movie one time it was about a month before 9/11 it was on Encore Action channel and ive been looking for it ever since luckily Amazon gave me this as a reccomendation. this is a true David vs Goliath movie some of the Mujahadeen start out with muskets at least thats what they look like there are some things that are wrong with this such as one they took an M60 to make it look like a Russian gun but its still a great movie and great watch especially what happening now and days with our Military being in that country.
Movie Review: How is it we're the Nazis now? Summary: 5 Stars
A stupendously well acted and well performed film. In all my military experience, I can say that few films capture the essence of the "man in the trench." What was perhaps most disturbing to governments of the time was the universal nature of its message, that all men, despite nationality or creed, abhor the senselessness of war. No doubt at the time, it was more expedient to continue depicting the Soviet military as jackbooted thugs. The film is a stunning indictment of needless violence and a resounding plea for peace.
Movie Review: Russia's Vietnam Summary: 5 Stars
The Beast is definitely one of the best war films out there. Comparable to both Platoon and Saving Private Ryan, The Beast is a shocking film set in the Russian war in Afghanistan. This film is centered on the struggle between the Russian tank crew and the Mujahadeen rebels. Lost in the burning desert, the tank crew are trying to get back to base alive, while the Mujahadeens are hunting the tank down for revenge. Extremely realistic, violent, and sometimes touching, The Beast is clearly one of the best war movies out in the shelves.
