Movie Reviews of The BeastMovie Review: A Well-told Story Summary: 5 Stars
I had never heard of this movie until it came up as a recommendation, and the reader reviews persuaded me to try it. I'm glad I did.
This is a well written and well-acted story of a Soviet tank crew who, after destroying an Afghan village, and becoming separated from the rest of their unit, are hunted down by the surviving men, and women, of the village.
The story turns on the stormy relationship between the tank commander, a bullying, straight-laced officer scarred by his childhoom war experiences in Stallingrad, and a young, university educated enlisted crew member.
The "beast" is the tank, and the Afghanis think they have a way to defeat it. The hunt to kill the beast provides the story line, and the impact of the tank commander's style on his crew leads to the eventual destruction of the beast.
Movie Review: Watch this movie..... and see the immediate future. Summary: 5 Stars
When I first saw "The Beast" a few years ago, it grabbed me the way few war movies ever have. This is not a gung-ho John Wayne kind of movie; this is more along the lines of Norman Mailer's "The Naked and The Dead". It puts you right between the Mujahadeen and the invading Russians during the 1980's, a time when we were watching the Soviets engaged in their own Vietnam. George Dzundza shines as the Russian Tank commander, together with the rest of the cast. As a cinematic experience I would recommend this one to anybody, the technical aspects having been well critiqued by the other reviewers here. As a preview (and perhaps a warning) of what the US and it's allies are going to get into as a result of September 11th, it should be required viewing for EVERYONE in the NATO countries.
Movie Review: A Surprising Unusual Movie! Summary: 5 Stars
This was an unusual movie Cause it has made when the soviet union was exist. Preparing 4 Soviet T-62 Tanks and a russian helicopter at that time probabvly was not an easy job. unfortunately the DVD had no special features, even production notes, there are too many questions about this film. was it based on a true story or not? on which location they've shot it? It's a simple but 5 star movie with very good actings, scene design, directing & brilliant production! I'd rented it without having any background and I got surprised! although it's a single layer simple DVD but for a collector like me, it's worth to buy. I can watch is several times. but for an ordinary costumer who seeks pure entertainment, this movie maybe not a really good choice.
Movie Review: read the play from which it is derived - NANAWATAI Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very fine film, as has been attested to by many of the reviewers here already. At first glance, it may appear to be a "war film" or an "action film", but it is really a dramatic film. Excellent performances and excellent dialogue/script. If you like the film, you might actually want to check out the playscript from which it was derived - NANAWATAI. William Mastrosimone is a superlative playwright, known for his characters and language/dialogue. And if you've only seen the movie once, you may want to review it a second time to further appreciate just how well-written it is - the story draws you in so effectively, you might miss the craft that is behind the story-telling.
Movie Review: The Beast Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is about the Russian invasion of Afganistan. We are now at war against the same peoples we backed against the Russians in 1980.We turned our backs on the "Mujahadeen"after the Russians could not win their war. These "Freedom fighters later became the christian worlds enemy now known as the Taliban.I wonder about political, and religeous motives. How is it that we saw them as righteous people, and backed them with arms, and finances against our enemy at that time,to now being "Evil"haters of the USA.Watch this movie, look back on history, and ask yourself what the Hell went wrong!Regardless,SUPPORT OUR TROOPS,AND THEIR SACRAFICES!Be proud, and thankful to be Americans!
