Movie Reviews of The BeachMovie Review: Good movie....bad rap.... Summary: 5 Stars
It is a true shame that this movie got slammed at the box office. What the box office wasn't able to pull off, the DVD more than makes up for it. A beautifully mastered and feature packed disc, and a spectacular movie make this disc a must buy.I was truly impressed with the acting, directing, writing and overall producing of this movie. Although the idea of this hidden society on a beach paradise seems more fitting for an episode of Saved by the Bell, the movie was so well done, the concept never once seemed silly. Plus, talk about features! This disc is chocked full of stuff you actually want to see! So many DVDs have tons of features, but they aren't that cool, so you never actually use them. Between the storyboards, alternate ending, alternate opening, and many more, this is a must own!!
Movie Review: An Underrated Adventure Summary: 5 Stars
I know, I know, it's not the book. Guess what? No movie is. Standing on it's own, I think it's one of the more underrated adventure movies out there. It has some great actors/actresses from around the world (Virginie Ledoyen, Tilda Swinton)-- even Leonardo, who I don't normally like, is the perfect fit for a brash, somewhat phony but adventurous American. Fantastic, beautiful, on location scenery in Thailand: places I had been, that I had seen. It has great narrative from the book. A great haunting soundtrack (UNKLE, Moby, Leftfield, Underworld). It's also got a kind of innocent magic to it-- which, i can tell you from traveling, is true and real-- and then the loss of that magic, which is also part of the story. Give it a chance, forget what other people say.
Movie Review: Certainly most thought-provoking and heart-wrenching. Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is a MUST-WATCH! I had high expectations for it and I was not disappointed. =]Firstly, this movie stars girls' heartthrob Lenardo diCaprio. Scenes of him topless and exhibiting his hunky body adds to the attractiveness of the film. Secondly, I feel the success of this film should go mainly to the plot: the cool detachment, the sinister aura, the exciting storyline, the profound underlying meaning, the X-factor which managed to capture me into the story. I think this is the best film I've ever watched so far. I was pretty much shaken after watching the film, thinking about the merciless killings, the bloodshed, and so on.... You can admire the beautiful scenery of Thailand and enjoy the hair-standing plot at the same time. Marvellous!
Movie Review: Perfect analysis and critique of hedonism Summary: 5 Stars
The movie, at the beginning actually looked like a typical American romantic drama. I was just concentrated on what would happen next to keep watching the film and didn't really take it seriously...until the shark attack. Then the movie's main point became clearer. The Swedish fishers were severely hurt that they instantly became disabled. As the rest of the inhabitants of the beach disloyally left them dieing, the real essence of the movie appeared obviously: Defining and expressing the inhuman-immoral structure of hedonism & materialism through a well-described hedonist world and deeply portrayed characters. One can even get the movie's further implications and close links with today's world.
Movie Review: Life, adventure, thrills, frights, friendship and more! Summary: 5 Stars
Perhaps the best part of the 'The Beach' is, it doesen't make you feel that you are actually watching a film, its more like you are witnessing some natural events taking place in a guy's life. The film may seem to be a just a story on college folks during the initial moments, but quite slowly and easily steals your breath and glues your eyes to the screen. A wonderful and precise performence from Leonardo DiCaprio is enough to simply make you join him in his adventures. A good brief performance from Tilda Swinton and almost the whole cast delivers a sattisfying performence. The film has its moments and is really an unforgettable experience. You won't be dissapointed.
