Movie Review: Well Worth the Patience
Summary: 5 Stars
Firstly must i say, wow, what a revelation Casey Affleck is in this movie. Up until this role i always thought him to be a nothing actor but this really goes to show how sometimes even the most unlikely people can surprise you. Director Andrew Dominik who made the fantastic "Chopper" which launched the career of Eric Bana onto the international stage, gives us his second long awaited film. Reminiscent of the works of Terrence Malick, we are treated here to a slow, moody and intelligent insight into the life of Jesse James as seen through the brooding eyes of Robert Ford, a James Gang member whom would later turn against his mentor and take his life. Brad Pitt captures the essence of Jesse, filling him with callousness, anger, pity and sadness, a performance quite different then previous cinematic attempts to portray this character. All the supporting cast are great and the music simply and movingly scored by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis whom previously lended their terrific talents to the brilliant "The Proposition". This film is slow and requires patience but is quite hypnotic and engrossing and well worth the journey for those who can appreciate intelligent, non action driven cinema. This is a true work of art and most deserving of being remembered come Oscars time.
