Movie Reviews of The Andromeda StrainMovie Review: 601 Summary: 5 Stars
More fun than a monoxide monkey on "squeeze". Scoop 7 comes down with a case of Arcturian slurping sickness. All that stands between this voracious plastic-eating mutant (no it's not Kevin Costner), and the certain destruction of humanity are our heroes, some soviet surplus equipment and Robertson's Odd Man Hypothesis (not that there's anything wrong with that). After running out of lab animals, they finally fake it out with a MIC T. Sit back, order up a 7-12, and try and work out how the buzzards survived long enough to get gassed.
Movie Review: A true jewel Summary: 5 Stars
This has to be one of the best science fiction made, most of it is on spec. The use of science throughout the movie is believable. Considering it was made in 70's, you will notice alot of up to date tech throughout the film ( for its time). you immediately bond with the characters, because the character are all normal people. For a movie in the 70;s there are alot of minorities in the film. I think people today have missed the point of science fiction films, they are supposed to be scientific , this one is , and you can tell from the beginning that its well researched. Although this film is G, its more a PG-13..
Movie Review: Sets look like they could be for a Star Trek movie in 1971 Summary: 5 Stars
What facinated me with the movie was that the sets look like they could be in a 1970's version of Star Trek had it been made into a motion picture in 1971. If you look at the steely underground corridors and and computer control rooms it looks like the designer watched Star Trek in the 60's. As a kid the movie facinated me in the fact that germs from outer space could mean the end of mankind. What kept me watching was that it could really happen today or in the future. I wonder if the director, Robert Wise chose the same sterile look on the bridge of Star Trek: The Motion Picture because of this film?
Movie Review: Space cooties Summary: 5 Stars
A space probe has brought back a mysterious metamorphosing molecular life form. The real story is a combination of running away form the bug and what is our government up to type of paranoia. These two themes are well integrated.
This may sound strange but "Andromeda Strain" is dated (or a period piece) and the premise would not be unique today. Today the bug would have to eat your cell phone. This movie is a classic and anyone replacing the original characters would always be compared to the original. Still it is fun to watch and say "Don't do that!"
Movie Review: A "classic" film Summary: 5 Stars
The classic film "the Andromeda Strain"The Andromeda Strainis based on Michael Crichton's first science fiction novel.
One thing that makes it unusual for a science fiction film is that it takes place in the current day, not in some imagined future.
The screenplay is excellent, the directing is excellent, the filming is excellent, and the actors are excellent.
I sat there and watched it over and over for days: it is that good.
Michael
