Movie Reviews of The Alamo

Movie Review: One of the Dukes best Westerns
Summary: 5 Stars

People always talk about "Stagecoach","Red River",and "The Searchers". These are classics, but most people underate many of the Dukes great Westerns. "The Alamo" and "The Horse Soldiers" are two not to be missed! This is an action-packed classic true story. Richard Widmark is also in fine form as Jim Bowie. The DVD edition is a great disc, and the film is clean and clear. This is great considering the film is over forty years old. This film also featured some uncredited direction by the legendary John Ford. Duke stars, directs, and produces this masterpiece!

Movie Review: The Alamo
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a great movie. I am not a big fan of John Wayne but this one was a fun ride! I liked how the Deguello sounds in this movie I like the battle scenes. And the dvd is so cool it has perfect picture and sound. Just an amazing dvd. An the special features are good to. The special features are

.John Wayne's the Alamo Documentary

.Theatrical Trailer

Thats it in this dvd

I timed the Special Features an then added it all up and I got

43 Minutes of Special Features

Movie Review: Cut, slash, and run baby!
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is just great...period. The frictional dynamic between John Wayne, Widmark, and Laurence Harvey, all fighting for the same cause has never been duplicated. Before or since.

I can't believe they are remaking this classic. And when I saw that Billy Bob Thornton was picked to play Crockett I almost fell out of my chair laughing. I dont think so!

This is an immortal film. One of the very few that still brings a tear. And the DVD does justice to the original theatrical release. 5 Coonskins.

Movie Review: too bad we can't have the full version
Summary: 5 Stars

I will try not to repeat what others have said, I simply agree that it is the best Alamo movie to date, and a masterpiece of cinema. As I live in Europe, I was able to buy and watch the British VHS release of the movie in 1993, which was 203 minutes long and contained good scenes that were deleted from the movie for reasons that I do not know. I wish this version, which is no longer available in Britain, could be released on DVD. I hope the decison-makers at MGM get other requests like mine...

Movie Review: A classic epic film!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is much more then just a western. It is a classic movie epic in the every way. The Duke turns out one of his best performances, as well as putting together this film. Richard Widmark is great as well. It is the wide release theatre edition of the film, so don't expect the longer directors cut. This film is one of the all time greats. It's a shame it didn't win Best picture in 1960. It is one of the greatest films ever made. Classic film buffs need this.
