Movie Reviews of The Alamo

Movie Review: THE ALAMO!
Summary: 5 Stars

Sorry, but I LIKE this movie! A massive MOVIE SPECTACLE about the heoric defense of "The Alamo!" JOHN WAYNE not only plays Davy Crockett, he directs this 1960 epic! RICHARD WIDMARK is Jim Bowie, LAURENCE HARVEY is Will Travis, and RICHARD BOONE is Sam Houston! If you are a fan of Westerns you will recognize a DOZEN of the finest CHARACTER ACTORS in this one! Yes, there are lots of HISTORICAL LIBERTIES with this one, but the DIMTRI TIOMKIN score pretty much makes up for that all by itself! The ending always gets me with this one, as soon as the songs starts lowly in the background! The DVD Extras on this one include a beyhind-the-scenes documentary as the Duke chain-smoked his way through this one! Don't you apologize for liking this one either!

Movie Review: If you like John Wayne and....
Summary: 5 Stars

If you love westerns this is a great one to own. John Wayne plays Davey Crocket and hails from Tennessee with a bunch of party animals who foolishly volunteer themselves up for service against the Mexican Army in a little run down fortress historically known as The Alamo. This movie has it all fighting, women, shooting, war, gun powder and whiskey.. what else could a good Western desire? Colonel Travis: the typical government brainless egghead calls the shots as the story goes and the whole showdown shows the stupidity of government waste and bureaucracy and how all those poor souls died under the guise of buying time for an army a horse ride up the road. The whole history could have been avoided easily and lives saved. This movie is really a must own.

Movie Review: This Great movie was originally released back in 1960, with John Wayne Starring as Davy Crokett.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the Original Alamo Movie, about how 185 exceptional men joined together in a sacred pact: They would stand firm against Mexico's ruler & dictator Santa Anna and his vast army, and willingly give their lives for freedom. John Wayne does a great job of portraying Davy Crockett. This movie was actually filmed in Texas, only a few miles from the actual battle. This is a long movie, about 2 hours & 42 minutes long. It's a great classic movie, it's very detailed, but it ends after the defeat of the Alamo. The newer movie "The Alamo" featuring Dennis Quaid as Sam Houston, and Billy Bob Thornton as Davy Crockett, covers the battle of the Alamo, plus the defeat of Santa Anna's vast army, by Sam Houston and his army at San Jucinto, Texas.

Movie Review: The Alamo
Summary: 5 Stars

I've seen many movies that John starred, for example,THE STAGECOACH, RIO BRAVO,THE LONGEST DAY,EL DORADO,THE HORSE SOLIDERS,THE MAN WHO SHOT THE LIVERTY VALANSE,THE WAR WAGON,and so on. ButI think this movie ,THE ALAMO,is the best movie that John starred.I didn't like John Wayne very much until I saw this movie, actually. But I came to like him thanks to this movie. And the song,The Green Leaves Of The Summer, composed Dimitri Tiomkin is also impressive.I think Dimitri Tiomkin was a great composer.HIGH NOON,THE GUNFIGHT AT THE OK CRRAL,Mr.SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON,RIO BRAVO,55DAYS AT PEKING,is also impressive. In many ways, this movie is a masterpiece and has to be left in the future.

Movie Review: A GREAT WAR EPIC!
Summary: 5 Stars

John Wayne's "The Alamo" is an excellent film. It features stunning cinematography, epic battle sequences, superb storytelling, and fine performances by the likes of Wayne, Laurence Harvey, Richard Widmark, Frankie Avalon and Richard Boone. Despite a few quibbles, the movie is very true to what happened during those "thirteen days of glory at the siege of Alamo."
The DVD not only features excellent picture and sound, but also includes an informative and entertaining documentary on the making of this grand film. Any John Wayne fan, or fan of historical epics, will definitely want to keep this one in their film collection! Movie/DVD Grade: A-
