Movie Reviews of The Accidental TouristMovie Review: A Rarity: Real Character Development Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of my favorite all time films. If you're looking for action, this is not the film for you (there isn't any). If you're looking for suspense, look elsewhere (there's not much). But if you're looking for engaging characters in a plot that makes you think and is both touching and humorous, this is the movie for you. It's rare that Hollywood produces a movie that respects its audience enough to let them think. This is a movie with so many interesting characters that they could have made several movies. After you watch it, you'll find yourself wondering about the characters' lives before the movie -- and what will happen to them later. When you're in the mood for something serious, funny and intellectual, this is a good movie to choose.
Movie Review: It's About time for this Classic Summary: 5 Stars
Finally, a DVD of this timeless classic. This is surely one of the best dramas in the history of the American Cinema. Although the grief Hurt's character goes through is quite specific, anyone who has experienced any type of tragedy or loss in their life can relate to his character. The movie shows his transformation from being totally destroyed inside to his rebirth. Despite having watched this film numerous times, the last five minutes always gets to me. It is indeed a rarity when a movie can make you cry without manipulating you (like Terms of Endearment). By the end of this film, the viewer completely understands the journey Hurt's character has travelled. The smile on his face in the taxi says it all. This one should not be missed.
Movie Review: Don't listen to the critical revue by Marshall Fine... Summary: 5 Stars
He's obviously a moron who must have watched the film half drunk. For proof of this, he states in his review that the main character, Macon -played by William Hurt- buys his dog, Edward, after his son's death and his divorce for companionship. If you watch the movie sober and with at least one eye open, it clearly shows that the dog belonged to his son and that's why Macon doesn't want to get rid of it even after it bites him, because Edward, the dog, is the last connection he has to his son. So don't let an unprofessional hack like Marshall Fine or other reviewers with questionable taste steer you away from this wonderful film. It delivers the perfect balance of comedy, drama, and romance with an amazing musical score by John Williams.
Movie Review: A simply beautiful movie Summary: 5 Stars
William Hurt, Geena Davis, and Kathleen Turner are flawless in this film. It's especially interesting to see Hurt and Turner reunited with director Lawrence Kasdan, since their previous collaboration was the great film noir "Body Heat," which is a much different film than "The Accidental Tourist." This in an incredibly faithful adaption of the Anne Tyler novel, yet the actors bring new shades to the characters, which make this movie just as good (if not better) than the book. Hurt in particular shines, playing the almost unlikable narrator Macon Leary, who can't seem to grieve for his dead son. What a wonderful film!
Movie Review: The Empire 5 Star 500 - #2 Summary: 5 Stars
What does is take to make you smile? A true deadpan drama comedy. There are many films that come out trying to be sad and funny at the same time. None of them reach the heights of this one. Many of those other attempts can be drawn back to The Accidental Tourist. Depending on your sense of humor this film can be very sad and hilarious at the same. Quirky its own unique way. This ultimately is a one of a kind outing. The message does not come easy but if you are a patient one, it will come.
